Last edited by gearspeed; July 20th, 2013 at 05:30 PM.

July 22nd, 2013 02:30 AM #1314This morning a motorcycle sideswiped our car on the driver side door. My dad who was driving, went down to check on the driver who told him "sorry sorry" and promptly sped away to a nearby eskinita, leaving a 1 foot gash on the driver side door several inches below the side mirror. Kamot ulo nalang kami.

Details are quite sketchy at the moment. I hope she's ok.
Last edited by A121; July 23rd, 2013 at 10:23 AM.

Yung wife ko din nabundol ng underbone sa Makati dati (on a sidewalk at that). Walang pakialam yung nakatama sa kanya at iniwan siya (good thing she only had some scratches on the leg). :swear::seeth:
Minsan ako din, while crossing in Makati (San Agustin Street); the cars stopped to let us pass then the motorbike sped through.
Hope your cuz is okay dude.

Happened to me also, some months ago during a weekend,- along Roxas Blvd northbound. Stop and go ang traffic at binundol ako sa likod...
Pinakiramdaman ko muna before I went out of the vehicle.
I have to fetch my kid from his school in a few minutes....
Grabe ang mga iyan! (I still have his plate number,- huwag lang kaming magku-krus ng daan....)

I think the reason why a lot of riders are abusive is because:
A. Lax LTO - this transport authority is too lax in giving out licenses. I am sure that if put to the test, most riders and drivers would fail. I have always said that driving is a privilege and people are abusing it.
B. A lot of riders are uneducated and illiterate. Let's face it. Motorcycles are one of the cheapest means of transport and with dealerships being so competitive, owning a motorcycle is as easy as buying a mobile phone. Having said this, a lot of people in depressed areas buy motorcycles and chances are, these people cannot even understand traffic rules and regulations. Heck, they probably don't even know defensive driving which is why they're so aggressive and just push themselves in wherever there's a space to squeeze through to the point where they not just endanger themselves but others too.
C. Double standard in enforcement. Traffic cops and enforcers tend to look the other way when it comes to motorcycles. This is probably because our corrupt enforcers / police know that they can't squeeze much from motorcycle riders. On top of that, riders will always try to escape and they usually are successful with escaping the enforcers unless they set up a checkpoint.
D. A wrong sense of entitlement - I have spoken to a good number of riders from different backgrounds and most of them feel entitled to being allowed to go through / squeeze in due to their size. Never mind that there's a queue and everyone is waiting. They will just push their way in and bully other motorists.
Just to add, what I find annoying is the "gang" mentality with riders. If a rider finds themselves in an accident, other riders would form around that rider and there have been times where these other "witnesses" would even go as far as trying to bully the hapless motorist who also figured in the accident. Most of the time, it is the riders fault since they weave in and out of traffic too much with wanton disregard for the speed of other vehicles which cannot stop as fast as a motorcycle.
Oh and riders cause traffic. When it rains, riders like to stop underneath overpasses and flyovers as well as pedestrian walkways. There was a time they ate up two lanes on a main thoroughfare. These riders should all be apprehended for obstruction.
And when they can't have their way of weaving through traffic, they will use the pedestrian sidewalk or even the bicycle lanes on sidewalks. They hit people, bags, benches, rubbish bins in the process and scare a lot of people as they zip their way through the sidewalk.
Anyway, these are my thoughts on why these guys are abusive and how they abuse the system.
