Just wondering -- If they were riding in a small XUV (e.g. Tucson, CRV), would that have given them more protection or same result?

dito talaga sa visayas ave, congressional ave and mindanao ave daanan ng mga heavy trucks, dump trucks and cement mixers na yan. i make 4 trips per day dyan and these are my observations:

mukhang properly equipped naman yung rescuers kahapon... seen the news na may gamit silang hydraulic jack to lift the vehicle.. sobrang bigat lang talaga yun mixer.. yung driver side talaga ang pinned down kaya yung driver malamang patay agad..

    damn LTO

Looking at the CCTV footage, mukhang naikabig nung driver pakaliwa yung trak nya. Unfortunately, nadaganan nya ang sasakyan and eventually, may namatay.

For the sake of discussion, what if hindi kinabig pakaliwa or hindi pinasampa yung trak sa center island?

simply no contest vs the mixer truck..the car is already totalled (looks like a honda brio mini from the rear angle) plus third party/comprehensive claims could fetch the beneficiaries something to survive for the time being..but what is really a big loss is the father's demise all because of completely avoidable circumstances had the mixer driver acted responsibly..kaso naghahabol para hindi masabon at mareject ng quality control ang dalang ready mix concrete..himas ka ngayon ng malamig na bakal..

    tsk tsk..

dapat dyan di lang yung driver ang kulong. dapat pati yung company executives and fleet maintenance head for not making sure their trucks are roadworthy. inabot nila ang susi dun sa driver at sila ang nagutos kung saan pupunta at kung ano ang required time on location kaya dapat sama sila sa pagkakulong. pag inabot mo ang susi nangangahulugan yun na na-inspect ang truck.

ano pa nga ba everytime there's an accident they always blame the brakes. it's the magic phrase that everyone invokes to absolve from any responsibility

but have these investigators ever checked the brakes of the vehicle in question, after the incident?

Why would poor brakes absolve anyone from responsibility? It still falls on the guilty driver.

it might be true na brake failire, pero panong hinde lulusot ang brake. papatakbo sila ng 60-80kph tapos biglang mag ppreno, ang bigat ng dala nila hinde talaga kakayanin. dami talagang reckless truck driver na nakikipag karerahan pa.

But looking on the cctv footage mukhang hinde naman umilaw un stop light ng truck as in dere derecho lang tapos un tamagilid na bago umilaw yun signal light ng right side.

I would agree to this... pero tama ba na administrative case lang for them? Is there anyone who can help shed light on this?

If that would be the case kasi, mas magiging responsible sila for maintaining their vehicles...

Maybe that the brake lights don't work or that there was never an attempt to step on the brakes.
The mixer bounced, looked like it was empty.
There is a possibility of a distracted driver which is rampant in Manila. Using a mobile phone whether texting or voice calls are a distraction and are often disastrous. The police should have confiscated the phone if the driver had one on himself or in the transit mixer. If the time stamp of the video clip coincides with the voice call or text from that phone , it is almost certain that the driver was distracted.
