I'm not sure if reading is a requirement. To pass the written test, maybe? But, I was driving a lot while I was in Japan and I couldn't read a d*mn thing. Same with Turkey and Colombia. At least those 2 countries had the Roman alphabet. Japan, everything was in Kanji, I think. I learned to navigate by stoplight and the nearest Lawsons or Circle-K. So long as you can recognize street signs.

January 24th, 2007 01:10 AM #35bastos kasi yun ibang mga puv drivers... feeling nila kasi hari sila ng road because they spent 90% of their time on the road. may mga ibang drivers rin parang hindi marunong mag stay sa one lane. singit ng singit ganun din naman ang daratingan.
isa ring problema yun ibang filipinos mahilig sa malaking bahay kahit sabaw yun lugar... as quoted by oldblue, dapat people should live near their sch or work para hindi inefficiently traveling everyday to their destinations.

OT:
Actually,- some years ago,- nilagyan na ang Zap-Alab Road (4 lanes na at that time) ng centerpoles/posts in the Las Pinas area. Kaso, ang mga hinayup*k na bus at jeepneys,- binubunggo ang mga ito hanggang tinanggal na nga. Ayon,- grabe ang trapik sa kalye na ito,- at sinabayan pa ng counter flow. Patay!
Have not seen these centerpoles yet as I normally do not pass the road, except for the short stretch near Toyota Alabang.... If they will implement this consistently, then indeed, this will be a welcome development... Just watch out for the jeepneys' loading/unloading attitude....

Yes,- 2 lanes in each direction (total of 4).
Alab-Zap Road was 2 lanes only a long time ago. I remember, we used to drive alongside another friend's car and for very long stretches, even the sharp turn near (then) Borden/Philips Lighting, never encountered another vehicle in the opposite direction.... Well, so much so for being young and reckless.... Those were the days... (Sorry po, not a good example here....)
