peeps, possible pa ba mabago ang mind set ng driving natin dito sa pinas? when i was in the US last november, nabilib talaga ako sa manner of driving dun. very courteous mga tao. they always follow road signs lalong lalo na ang stop signs. kahit walang sasakyan, stop talaga sila. also, they respect the pedestrians.

na-compare ko lang kasi dito. parang normal na lang kasi ang mag-swerve, mang-cut, jeepneys/buses/tricycles picking up passengers in the middle of the road, overtaking sa shoulder, no respect to crossing pedestrians, tailgating, overspeeding in inner streets, excessive honking, using blinkers/sirens, counterflow, etc...

    The problem is three-fold.

    1. People will abuse it when nobody is looking.

    2. There aren't a lot of law enforcement officers that can resist a bribe.

    3. And with poverty and the lack of education comes lack of discipline for most drivers, especially PUV drivers dahil yon ang pinang-kakain nila sa pamilya nila so they have to fight for it whatever way they can.

Being born and raised there and then living here in the US makes me realize how flexible the human being can be when it comes to discipline, however.

We have to start with ourselves. If we think "everybody does it anyway" nothing's going to change.

disiplina. if we have sufficient road hindi magkakaganito.

no chance, whatsoever, bec of poverty most of our drivers didn't go to formal driving trainings, I bet most of them tinuruan lang ng kapitbahay, kamaganak, kaibigan... siguro pwede kung hulugan tayo ng A-bomb tapos start from scratch lahat...hehhee

Good idea, but how's the poor going to get around town then...? I personally rely on a LOT of public transpo myself.

I don't think it's just enforcement that is the solution, kasi people here having nothing against them when driving so they don't have to "fight their way" ika nga. Do you get my point? Hard to describe.

Basically, what I'm saying is that people drive the way they do in Manila because they're forced by it. Linked to another thread that asked why people abroad drive that way and change when they go back here, back to their "old bad selves"? Answer is simple. In Manila, you have to fight your way to get by, but in the US (or any other more disciplined countries) there is no need. Hence, they drive "normally" in respect to people who drive in the same country.

They drive obediently and civilly because they can. Try that in Manila and people will take advantage of you!

But to you guys who are in Manila, tingin niyo dahil natatakot lang sila sa enforcement dito. That's partially true, and the other part of the truth is that the problem lies within those who use the roads in Manila, like in my previous post.

In a related issue about speed limits. The Autobahn used to have no speed limit before, but they tested and imposed a limit. What happened? The number of accidents increased. They removed the speed limit and people could drive at their own pace. The key is to trust the people, you won't get that in Manila.

Higpitan mo yung enforcement, mag-rally yung mga PUV drivers and those who commute will suffer. How many times have you seen rallies and the lack of jeeps because of a change in the system?
