Toll discount for SLEx users pushed

MANILA, Philippines—Motorists who use the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) should not be made to pay the full toll rate for using the roadway which has almost become a virtual parking lot due to an ongoing rehabilitation project, congressmen said yesterday.
Parañaque Representative Eduardo Zialcita said the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) should give motorists who use the SLEx a 50-percent toll discount.
Zialcita aired his proposal during a hearing being conducted by the House oversight committee on President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s 10-point projects involving the Department of Transportation and Communication.
He said he had already written to TRB about his proposal although he has yet to hear from the agency.
Another Parañaque lawmaker, Rep. Roilo Golez, said the operator of the Skyway should also cut its rates by about 25 to 50 percent.
“The contract of Skyway is for the speedy, smooth flow [of traffic] but right now, they’re not able to fulfill the contract … So they should reduce their rates,” Golez said, adding that he has already filed the corresponding resolution.
Although the rehabilitation of the expressway would eventually benefit the public, there was no need to charge them the full toll rate because of the inconvenience the project was causing them, he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Zambales Rep. Ma. Milagros Magsaysay said provincial buses using the SLEx should also be given a discount.
Lower toll rates, she pointed out, would allow the buses to use the costlier Skyway and avoid the traffic jam on the main road.
Oversight committee chair Rep. Danilo Suarez said the TRB’s lack of response to Zialcita was a serious concern and the House panel should convince the board to slash its toll rates in the meantime.
According to Suarez, the long hours spent on the road have become wasteful for motorists.
“We’re consuming more gasoline because of inefficiency,” he said.

July 7th, 2009 10:29 PM #38I agree perfectly with all your comments. These so called "traffic enforcers", instead of just standing around at random areas should position themselves at the bottlenecks, I mean that is where hell all breaks loose as each driver will jostle each other just to get thru without any regard to giving way or just the plain one by one attitude. They should be the ones to control these areas and if they are able to do this I guess traffic will move faster better than the highway becoming a virtual parking lot.

OMG, 2010 pa lahat ng columns, eh bakit nila agad hinarangan yung 3rd lane from alabang to sucat
Puwede i try, 1. Palit air filter 2. Linis throttle body 3. Linis MAF sensor 4. Check spark...
high idle RPM at engine start
