i always shut down my engine whenever i gas up. besides, gas boys also remind you about the safety reminders before refueling your car. so just follow what they say. it's for your own good.
whether it's a myth or not, i really try not to use my mobile phone while refueling (although i don't necessarily turn it off) just to avoid the myth.

January 12th, 2010 09:36 PM #52Sorry if this is OT, but I'm just curious, how much fuel does a car use up in ignition? I see some people turning off their engines while in traffic and then after a minute they start it again. Wouldn't it be more practical to just leave the engine running in the first place since the fuel used in ignition may be more than if it was on the whole time?

Supposedly ten seconds worth of fuel to start a car (given your typical EFI). So shutting it off for waits of more than a minute makes sense.
It looks like it uses more fuel than that because of the way the fuel rail is primed. When you turn the engine off and on, the ECU repressurizes the fuel rail... but that extra fuel pumped into the rail eventually gets back to the tank once the engine is running via the return line.

Well, I wasnt talking about the static that you hear on the cellphone. I'm talking about the static that is on us "Humans" living things. Most of these fire are caused in close proximity of the pump the car and the nozzle.
Anyway, the bottom line is that all regulations pertaining to safety should strictly be followed no matter haw vague they may be. Would you rather risk it than risk your life or property for it?
I dont turn my cellphone off but I dont use it. I turn off my engine. The moment the gas tank opens up i dont get out of my vehicle (i go out either before or after the gas tank is closed) and most certainly I dont smoke.
On another note, I once reprimanded a driver of a delivery van who hid his cigarette (half finished still smoking) in between the seats inside his cab. Requested the pump boy to stop the filling and requested for the driver to get off of the vehicle. Called the attention of the manager and pointed the still smoking cigarette. I asked the driver kung nakita nya sign and eto response "eh sayang sir eh" (ironically, it's on the same gas station in mid day nga lang)
Peace....
Have a safe day to everyone...

What the TS did is a classic example of harrasment which is being perpetrated by law enforcement officers in this country every minute of the day. The TS should not show too much arrogance just because he was using a bigger vehicle and due to the fact the he's a law enforcement officer, as he claims to be. The sad thing is that he might meet his match someday and in that unfortunate situation, the penal laws that he's trying to enforce right now might be the laws that might put an end to his career.
I certainly hope and pray that you amend your ways before it's too late.
