last night while traversing NLEX, huminto ako sa Total gas station para magpa-gas. upon approaching the station, i told my wife to refrain from using the celfone while filling. pagtapat ko sa pump, the attendant asked me to shut-off the engine.

You are definitely correct here. I work in the hydrocarbon industry...and if you really ask me, even cellphones, cameras and all electronic devices should be switched off. Dapat nga ay lagyan pa ng earth bonding or ground to earth ang vehicles natin bago mag start ng filling.

i saw an episode of brainiac where they tried to make a caravan full of fuel fumes to explode using a cellfone. they rang the cellfone and nothing happened...they actually have to use an electronic igniter to light the fume and make it explode...

BTT: ayus din ah.. bisor pala kaya inde pude bawalan.. kung ako nandoon lalapitan ko at sasabihan, Total, customer is always right naman eh..

di ba na test na rin yan ng mythbusters..ang pagsabog ay galing sa static ng pants and not the cellphone..and you need a big spark to ignite it...since hindi tayo self service dito..so patawa lang yung rule na ito dito..

whether a celfone can or can't cause gas to explode is beside the point..

what i'm saying is; signs are posted all over their station telling the customer to turn-off their phones and yet their supervisor is the first one violating it..

Supervisor ang number 1 violator. Alam kaya ng amo nya ginagawa nya? That kind of supervisor doesn't deserve to be respected.

At wag mangyari sumabog nga dahil sa katetext nya at nededbol sya, i'm sure irereklamo pa ng pamilya nya yung gas station.

Ako din di masyadong convinced na pwedeng manyari yun but I follow the rule anyway.

The supervisor must have watched the MythBusters episode where they tried in vain to induce fire (via a cellular phone) in a gasoline station like environment.

Agree ako rito bro. These are rules that need to be followed at hindi naman Total inconvenience kung susundin natin ito...

Para bang "Follow what I say, but don't follow what I do" ang kaso na ito....

Ika nga ni Mayor Lim "The law applies to all, otherwise, none at all".

Yep, she, of all people, should not be using her mobile phone in that vicinity. That's a major violation. Not unless Total does not practice safety being a top priority.
