Absolutely stupid. You don't get out of your vehicle spoiling for a fight. Anyone with a hidden firearm is primed to fire first and ask questions later... it takes a certain amount of paranoia kasi to have a gun hidden in your glovebox... and given how scared most people are of carjackers...

This is what most of the forumers are always saying... "nakatagpo ng katapat."
This serves also as a reminder to me, because I have the tendency sometimes to go down and beat the other party black and blue.
For the suspect, it seems that for him, it is a clear and present danger to his life and limb that is why he opted to fire and just ask questions later on.
For the victims, lesson learned, the hard way.

Yeah... lesson learned the hard way. Yun nga lang sana... they catch the gunman and make him learn his lesson. Preferably the hard way, up the behind, in jail.

The gunman should have surrendered after the incident if he felt his actions were justified... the question is, would the circumstances surrounding the incident be enough to mitigate his potential punishment?
This begs for more discussion: what do you do when, on a lonely road, your vehicle is blocked by another car and a couple of brawny men come out and approach you... with no weapons drawn visibly? You're alone, or at least you're the only adult male in your vehicle, let's say with the wife and kids.
Additionally, what if it were a lone female?

If it's a road rage thing, apologize if you know you're at fault. It deflates an angry man when his opponent is apologetic... No one likes to hit a non-aggressive opponent... Well... Mostly.
Otherwise, drive. Once they're out of the car, you can just drive around them. We've actually done this once or twice with some drunken idiots coming at us...
