The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) raised a region-wide alarm yesterday on a van owned by veteran actress Gloria Romero, which was forcibly taken by four armed men shortly before midnight Wednesday in Barangay Mariana in New Manila, Quezon City.

“We are conducting pursuit operations in known carjackers’ lairs in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces,” Inspector Angelo Nicolas said without elaborating.

A police report said Romero’s driver, Erwin Inis, was about to park the green Hyundai Starex van (ZGB-830) registered to the actress, whose real name is Gloria Gutierrez, when four gunmen approached the vehicle.

One of the gunmen reportedly hit Inis with a gun and took cell phones and other valuables inside the vehicle. The suspects ordered Inis and Romero’s grandchild out of the van, then fled with the vehicle as well as a Toyota Vios without a license plate.

The QCPD is closely coordinating with the Traffic Management Group and the police provincial offices in Bulacan and Pampanga, where stolen vehicles are often sold and cannibalized by carjackers.
