MANILA, Philippines (1st UPDATE) - A man claiming to be a former soldier bumped his car against 20 vehicles as he attempted to evade pursuing traffic enforcers in Mandaluyong City and Quezon City on Saturday.

Traffic enforcers tried to stop Tomas Hamchawan (not Anchuan as earlier reported), who was driving an Isuzu Crosswind at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City, after receiving a report that he was involved in a car crash.

But instead of stopping, Hamchawan sped off. Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic enforcers pursued Hamchawan up to White Plains in Quezon City where there was a traffic jam.

Hamchawan suddenly counter-flowed towards Ortigas flyover where he hit 20 vehicles, including a Toyota Fortuner, a Mercedes Benz, and a passenger bus. This was where traffic enforcers caught up with him and arrested him.

Several people, including a traffic enforcer, were injured. A woman bound for Tandang Sora who was just walking on the street was also hurt. Her hands and feet were injured.

Owners of the vehicles who got involved in the collisions went to Camp Caringal in Quezon City to file a complaint against Hamchawan.

Hamchawan appeared to be mentally imbalanced when interviewed by dzMM reporter Jeffery Hernaez. He claimed stealing a Philippine flag but did not say from whom.

Hamchawan will be brought to Quezon City Police District's Station 8 after a medical examination.

Is this the first time have you heard a driver whose driving in edsa encounter a heavy traffic and counterflow and hit at least 5o vehicles and the driver said get out of my way . What penalty need to be imposed in this driver.

So this is not the first time that it will happen on the street . The driver must be ban in driving and have his license confiscated in his attitude.

ang tanging magagawa natin dyan kung sakaling tayo ang nagawang banggain nya ay i-recommend na ipakulong na yan sa maximum asylum section ng mental hospital, kasi sobrang kabaliwan na ang ginawa nya eh alangan patulan pa natin katulad ng mga pumatol na bumugbog at humampas sa taong yan dahil lalabas pa na tayo pa ang mas baliw sa buwiset na yan.

kung sabagay hindi naman natin masisisi ang ilang nag umpisang saktan at naki-sawsaw sa pag gulpi sa baliw na yan dahil nga sa ginawa nya ang unang papasok sa isip mo ay sobrang galit dahil nga nasa tamang traffic flow ka ay bigla na lang may magka-counterflow sa lugar na yun.

bale ang mahahabol mo na lang talaga yun mismong may-ari ng sasakyan para bayaran ang mga nagawan nya ng damage.
