actually, i think, this is the 2nd time na nagkroon ng ganitong discussion. the 1st one was with the grupong toyota(?), pero madali namang naayos at nagkalinawan dahil naging kewl naman ang usapan, some of their members even registered at MCP. sana maging maayos na din ang takbo ng thread dito.

Okay, as a balanced view on the subject of the topic on motorcycles and bikes in the middle of the road. From a person who drives cars and motorbikes

Point 1:

As a fact a biker is much more visible to people in cars if he stays in the center of the road. Especially on freeways. Providing the biker travels in the range of 70-100+ kph on highways he/she is traveling on pace with most cars on the road here in the Philippines.

Traveling on the sides of the road lessens visibility and encourages cars to attempt risky overtaking maneuvers that could be fatal for the biker and expensive for the driver. Hence, why there are bikers getting sideswiped by cars.

In essence a biker must treat his bike like a car in non-congested areas. Only in extreme traffic jams is lane splitting considered. Since the cars are stopped and the bikes can move with very little risk.

Point 2:

On the debate of bad cagers and bikers.

As a user of both vehicles, I agree with the fact that there are bad people on both sides. When driving my car I had brushes with delivery bikers that force their way on the road, same with tricycles, racing and cutting lanes. And dragracers who take over the roads. When using my bike, Ive been broadsided by a jeepney, Forced off the road by a crazy driver who must've been in a hurry to pee at home at 3am from a night of beer and girls..heh. Been raced by a car on the expressway maybe cuz he didn't like the idea of a bike faster than his corolla. With taxi's and cars that tailgate so close you could fart and they'd smell it.
Fact is, I experience the same things whether I'm on my car or bike on occasions. So generalizing each other serves no point. Much like saying white men are better than blacks.

Point 3:

On the view of most people in our country about bikes being unsafe on the expressways.

Why do people who drive cars use the hi-ways instead of the service roads? To get away from the congestion, pot-holes, pedestrians, and puv's stopping to pick-up passengers. And also to save gas. These are the very same reasons bikers have. On the service roads, chances of getting hit by jeeps and cars increases.

People say that the crosswinds and being overtook by a large bus or truck will cause the biker to crash. I have been biking for more than 8 years now and have to say that the wind doesn't affect a biker unless its a hurricane or typhoon. In which both car and bikes will find it hard to operate.

People also say that bikes cant run as fast as cars. Which is true(case to case), but thats why only bikes and cars that go a minimum of 70 kph should be allowed. And the appropriate fast lane should be observed. How many people do you think still know that the left most lane is the fast lane? Very few. (Because the government failed to re-install the signs that indicated the lanes.) Cagers/bikers pass cars and bikes that travel slow on the roads.

And finally the reason why motorcycles were banned in the first place. How many drivers know that the reason they were banned was because of a cop that was ordered to wear a festival hat as part of an event had an accident that unfortunately ended in his death? This one stupid event caused by sheer stupidity of the government ended in the discrimination of bikers all over the country. This happened years ago.

In my view since i've driven cars for 10 years and bikes for 8 years, cars are safer than bikes on the road. However the reason for accidents are caused by idiots on both sides. Bikers should ride their machines like cars following the traffic rules and regulations, except on extreme traffic situations and cars should treat bikers as fellow motorists. I ride my bike when I'm solo and use a car when there is baggage or on family trips.

pretty warm in this thread, so please think well before posting anything here, okay? think about how your posts might be misinterpreted and revise them accordingly. i would also advise people to research about certain statements which may not be entirely accurate first before declaring them (for example, statements made by car-drivers about riding motorcycles). we don't want things to get out of hand here.

yeah car drivers and bikers should get along na. kasi tayo tayo na rin lang naman ang nagkikita kita sa kalye. malay mo, we might save each others lives. like in a road accident situation where a call for help will mean a life saved.
