Same here. I posted a warning on this MO sometime ago, pero sa thread regarding places to stay in Baguio.

Got cheated to the tune of P650.00 hindi pa purong Sugpo at hinaluan ng native na Pasayan! Pro talaga I was part of a 6-car convoy tapos nadaya kaming lahat. Most of the buyers were people whom you could consider street-smart pero nalusutan pa din.

Other roadside vendors to avoid are the crab vendors along the winding road to Subic. Nowadays I carry a mini weighing scale in my car w/c I can use in a jiffy in case I have a hankering for fresh seafoods sold by the roadside.

i never tried buying from these so called roadside vendors. feeling ko kasi theyre just there to take advantage of motorist na maeenganyong bumili sa kanila

we were victimized also by these subic vendors ng crab, actually what were buying were mangos from zambales then one lady ask if we want crabs so my dad check it first then nung mabigat he bought 1 kilo for 750 pesos, she then passed on another set like four pieces for 500 pesos. my dad then took it also and we left home. When we cooked it we found out halos shell na lang at walang laman ni aligi wala na din. Sabi ko it's better to buy at palengke where we have suki at di ka pa lolokohin.

Why? Because matagal ng hindi kumakain yung mga talangka sa kalye (the animal, and not the vendor/s).

Nakatali kasi usually yung mga pincers nun, and as a result, the claws atrophy due to non-use. Lumiliit yung laman, and since hindi nga nakakakain, talagang mauubos yung fat (aligi).

Which is why chefs buy talaga sa palengke or fishport.

I learned that from watching Discovery, hehehe.

Beware of Roadside (seafood) vendors!
