I saw in 24 oras that Margarita Fores' SUV got carnapped at dela Rosa/Greenbelt. That area is busy, well lighted and full of guards and police.

Suspect in Lozano son slay identified

MANILA, Philippines – Police have already identified one of the suspects in the brutal killing of Emerson Lozano, the son of Marcos lawyer Oliver Lozano, whose body was found burned beyond recognition in Porac, Pampanga last week.

In a press conference Wednesday, Chief Superintendent Benito Estipona, head of the special investigating task group looking into the killings, refused to give further details as to the identity of the suspect except that he was a “main participant” in the crime and already has previous records of criminal offenses.

“We have already identified a suspect but that’s all the information we can give you. We cannot divulge it to you yet because manhunt operation is ongoing,” Estipona said.

Investigators also revealed that the suspect behind the killing of the young Lozano was also involved in the killing of car dealer Venson Evangelista.

The suspect, according to Highway Patrol Group director Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina, is believed to be operating in a group.

“Our investigation points to a group… In fact, as of now it seems that only [Lozano and Evangelista] were the targets and [Ernane] Sensil (Lozano’s driver) was not the main target. That is exactly what we are trying to find out,” Espina said in the same conference.

Earlier in the day, police already recovered the vehicle of Lozano, a Kia Carnival, which was also burnt in Dinalupihan, Bataan.

Police said the suspects could have burned the van to destroy evidence.

“Maybe this is an attempt by the criminals to destroy evidence. However, one of the pieces of evidence, the chassis and engine number are hard to burn,” Espina said.

But police have yet to determine the motive behind the killings.

“It may be carnapping, it may be not. It may be vengeance or not. That’s why we need the motive,” Espina said.

Estipona, meanwhile, said that police were still waiting for Oliver Lozano’s affidavit as to his statement that his son was a victim of “mistaken identity.”

Batas lang yan eh, so pwedeng mabago yan.

I've always thought of Makati as a safe place.

    Aquino against re-imposing death penalty

    By Norman Bordadora

MANILA, Philippines—(UPDATE) President Benigno Aquino has said he would look into calls for the re-imposition of the death penalty but at the same time indicated that he’s against the implementation anew of capital punishment.
Aquino was asked the question amid renewed calls for the death penalty after a series of car-theft-related murders.
“I will have to study that, and I don’t know where the calls are emanating from but the essence here is that our judicial system, as you know, is not perfect,” Aquino said in a chance interview after addressing the Liberal Party’s 65th anniversary ceremonies.
Aquino indicated that he was once an advocate of the death penalty. He said he even had discussions on the death penalty with his mother, the late democracy icon and former President Corazon Aquino.
“At the end of the day, I used to support death penalty,” he said.
“But I really witnessed a justice that was not perfect, so I have to change my position...Since we cannot turn back the clock, if we execute somebody, then we shouldn’t, in the off chance that we might render that penalty to somebody who was not guilty,” he added.
Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, an author of a bill calling for the re-imposition of the death penalty, has again sought support for the capital punishment in the wake of car thefts that ended in the abduction and killing of car dealers.
Lawyer Oliver Lozano, the father of one of the victims of the recent killings and car thefts, also asked for the return of the death penalty.
But Aquino called for caution. “There is a possibility that people can be wrongly convicted especially if they do not have the ability to secure competent counsels. If in a perfect world, we have an efficient judicial system, then perhaps there is a room for that.”
“But when… because of your economic status you cannot get the right lawyers to help you out, then there is a possibility that you will be wrongly convicted. Then, if we are going to pass the death penalty, how do you turn back the clock if the accused is executed?” he added.
Aquino also vouched for the integrity of the Philippine National Police amid criticisms brought by the recent heinous crimes.
“Can I just add? There are so many criticisms against the PNP. But look at how many (cases) that they have been solving? And it will just take maybe a few minutes to Google search what their achievements have been,” Aquino hastened to add, before ending his interview with reporters.
The President felt optimistic that the investigation of recent crimes would be resolved soon.
“When we heard the news, we called the regional director of the PNP office in Central Luzon and I asked him to prioritize it. I’m expecting developments on it,” Aquino said.
“But my problem is I really couldn’t reveal any of the details. But I’m optimistic on the solution of all of these cases. Not only that of the son of Attorney Lozano but also other cases,” he added.
Aquino said the NCRPO “for instance, reported so many accomplishments yesterday.”
He indicated that a quick resolution of a case such as the one involving a robbery in Taguig “is more typical of the performance of the PNP.”

Barbaric. Even if congress makes death a capital punishment, the passage of time, supervening events would call for its suspension. The agrieved parties would all the more get frustrated. The Rules of Procedure may change from time to time and if favorable to the accused, he benefits from it. It is hard to prosecute even if the evidence would say the obvious.

RIP to the 3 men who died these horrible deaths and sana mabulok ang mga may kasalanan, even before they die. They could have just robbed them and took the vehicles...but to kill them...sobra na yun.

just my observation on this case:

the killings of car seller/dealer is pointed as a carnapped case is highly doubtful since even the vehicle they took was burned to disposed any evidence of fingerprints, belongings or even blood stains from struggle if there is any aside from the horrible things the suspects have done to all the victims - may head gunshot na, pinutol pa ang mga paa then sinunog pa (is this necessary if ever someone wanted just to kill)...i'm thinking more of business competition among themselves, personal vendetta or politically motivated becoz as we all knew Atty. Oliver Lozano being a prominent figure in Marcos era w/c i hope not.

if i'm the immediate family of the victims i would not file a complaint or charged the suspects with the kind of justice system we have its just a waste of time and money instead its an Eye for an Eye, Tooth for a Tooth Principle na ito for me kung ano inutang mo yun din ang ibabayad mo - simple as that!
