Tragic holidays: 15 dead in 2 accidents

    http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/inquire...in-2-accidents

Does anyone have the details on the recent SCTex accident? Ang alam ko lang something was burning on the side of the road, the smoke from which caused zero visibility. Pansin ko kasi there was this one car that got smashed up pretty bad, while the others where relatively intact; na direct hit ba siya ng container truck? What car was it? Unang tingin ko kasi is Avanza, but the person they interviewed said it was an innova

Yung link ni LadyRider was last year pa. There was a recent accident a few days ago. We passed by that area around 3hrs after the accident. It was indeed the smoke from burning grass that caused the accident. Mausok pa rin ang area when we passed by.

Bobo kung sino man nagpa-sunog at nag-sunog dun.

The official cause was a lit cigarette thrown by a motorist daw sa side ng road which slowly grew into a full-blown fire.

Most Tarlaqueños (those I talked to during a drinking session last night ) say "may nagsindi nun para sunugin yung lumang damo, imposible naman sigarilyo lang ganun na kalakas) they also pointed out that most grasses on the road sides at SCTEX this time of the year are green and are hard to light.

Sa harap din ng Gerona Tarlac two days ago, Dec. 31 may smashed-up gray van sa side ng road, mukhang tinabi na ng traffic enforcers because it was causing heavy traffic. Didn't see any bodies though, but from the look of the vehicle, I doubt anyone could've survived that. May yellow bus din na nakasadsad sa mga puno, I couldn't see the front area where the impact happened, madami kasing tao nakaharang and I didn't want to further slow down traffic by making 'usi'.

Sabi namin, sayang-- new year pa naman...

At huwag basta basta magpe-preno,- mag minor(slow down) lang... Mukhang nagpreno ng malakas ang unang sasakyan kaya sunud-sunod na ang salpok sa likuran niya.... RIP....

di ba delikado rin yung slow down? mas maganda siguro kung itabi mo muna sasakyan? or go like 20kph sa shoulder? kung talagang 0 visibility.

If you're going to slow down just before the fog/smoke,- I am certain that the vehicles behind you would do the same.... Also, turn-on your lights to broadcast your dynamic position....,And, the danger zone is only a few car-lengths anyway, so you're going to be out of it in a very short while.....

You have to slow down a long way BEFORE entering the smoke/fog as well as turning on your lights (parklights/fog).

If you slow down after you enter the smoke/fog, you are just asking for trouble.

If you stop, make sure you have your lights turned on but that is still no guarantee that someone will crash into you because you are a target the longer you stay inside the smoke/fog area.

I encountered a similar situation in NLEX before (in fact a van ahead of us crashed into another car who slowed down suddenly). I'd agree with what GH mentioned, slow down well before the smoke and open your lights so you can dictate the speed/tempo to the cars following you. Don't ever stop inside the smoke and if you're really in doubt, just slow down and stop before the smoke
