July 26th, 2008 07:03 AM #17Yup. When it comes to these, I always give them the benefit of the doubt. Though someone told me ambulances with red plates are used by local officials rather than for true emergency purposes. As I have not been able to verify this, I still give way for the time being.

July 26th, 2008 07:41 AM #18What can we do, they are powerful here on earth. Just let the higher being do what is right for them when their time comes.hehe
I also had a bad experience with a 5 car convoy of a government official when I was on my way to Manila. The 4 cars managed to overtake the 3 vehicles but the 5th, it got stuck when I was approaching at a speed of 100kph. I tried everything that I could to signal the driver but he didn't care. He just continued like there is no car approaching. I couldn't do anything but to pull to the side of the road.
What I want to see is two different convoys go head to head- one on the wrong side and one on the right side. Let's see who will give way.hehe

July 29th, 2008 09:23 AM #19Medyo OT – I once had an encountered with an SUV bearing an 8 plate. The guy apparently had just filled up at a gas station and was trying to turn left back to the street. I happened to be driving down the street and had the right of way but the guy turned on his wang wang and suddenly inched forward. I had to swerve left to avoid hitting him, the gasoline station being on my right. I came to a full stop and waited. The guy turned on his wang wang again and I tooted my horn in response. He did this for a couple more times and I responded in kind. Until he had no choice but to back up and go behind me. But instead of going behind me he passed in front of me. And as he turned towards me, the driver rolled down his window. When I saw the driver’s face, I thought he was going to curse at me, so I pre-empted him by rolling down my window and shouted at him, “Isusumbong kita sa amo mo!” It was at this point that my friend, who was seated beside me, whispered to me, “Hey, that’s not the driver. That’s the congressman himself.”
However, before I could react, the SUV driver suddenly appeared flustered, rolled up his window and drove away. The way I see it, either my friend was wrong (and the driver got scared) or the congressman was so shocked someone could mistake him for his driver or he simply thought I have direct access to his boss, GMA. Whichever it was, recalling this always makes me smile. At least, for once, whether it was just the driver or really the congressman, a bullying driver got his comeuppance.

July 30th, 2008 02:22 PM #20You know what is annoying, the drivers of those luxury cars with sirens/blinkers are more boastful than their bosses. It's so irritating when they're behind the wheel, they think that they own the vehicle which we all know, even if they work throughout their lives, they will have a hard time buying a luxury vehicle.
The worst thing that could happen is when a driver is behind the wheel along with his friends and they are having a joy ride without his boss knowing it. I saw one in Ortigas before where 2 expeditions with rolled down windows and when they passed beside me, I saw a driver and a maid on each vehicle (I know the uniform of a maid) and before they turned into a no right turn sign, they rolled up their windows and turned on their siren. I was like, I hope their boss finds out what they are doing. It's so amazing how they're using their bosses position and claiming it as their own when their bosses are not around.
