i'd sport a flat black hood too.

at certain times of the day kasi, the sun is actually reflected off the pajero's hoodscoop and straight into my eyes, even if nakababa visor ko.

    business idea:

even with those who actually have carbon fiber hoods, i wonder how many of them actually race their cars? or as M2 pointed out, they more than make up for the weight savings with heavy rims or stereo equipment?

baka kulang lang sa workout and they can't lift a heavy metal hood by themselves :hihihi:

m54: i think seibon has it, CF cloth na looks like the solid CF na, adhesive backed. offers a bit of functional benefits but mostly aesthetic. nafeature sa sportcompactcar magazine yun with their Z-Tune issue.

Going back to the title.... My 91 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo has a black top (not hood). I think it's just for pogi looks. It does make my Dad look cool :

I'm not sure about sporty subcompacts, but black hoods are available on some 4x4's to reduce hood glare reflected onto the driver's eyes since 4x4 hoods are clearly visible from the driver's seat.

I guess it depends... I don't get glare from my hood.

There's a new thing coming out now... inspired by Sport Compact Car's take on the hot-rodder's old fall-back, the completely flat-black car... I'm seeing it on more and more drift/drag cars here in the Philippines.

Kind of neat, actually. You get a scratch, you just lay another coat of flat black on it.

Must be hell to drive at noontime, though.

Yup, the Plymouth Laser had a black roof to differentiate it more from its Mitsubishi Eclipse twin. In fact, they're triplets, the third one being the Eagle Talon. Today, only the Eclipse remains.

One car that had a carbon fiber roof is the BMW M3 CSL. They shaved off some weight by removing a number of electrical features present in the standard M3, and opted to infuse a lighter top.

This started with the muscle cars of the 60's, this was to reduce the glare on their long massive hoods.

I used to think carbon fiber hoods are simply a weight-saver, while fake ones are for plain aesthetics. Never knew this reduces the glare deflected by sunlight. I've driven lots of cars but never did I complain of hood glares.
