You bought this car because the owner happened to be a friend of a friend,
the seller promised you the car is fresh and all you have to do is drive it
but later you found problems that need to be replaced and were never declared and it is costing you a fortune.
    what do you do?
it happened to me and i need your inputs before i call the owner again.

Did you bring a trusted mechanic when you inspected the car? I've had a bad experience dati, friend ko pa ha, when i declared to him na andaming sira he told me "as-is, where is" daw. Lesson learned na rin ako. Try asking your friend to at least shoulder part of the cost of repairs, that is, if he agrees (which in all likelihood i doubt). At any rate, me lamat na ang pagkakaibigan ninyo pagnagkataon. Basta second hand auto kasi, andaming tricks and deception ang nangyayari. Good luck and congrats any way sa car mo bro.

huwag mong asahan na ang second hand car ay in perfect condition na kahit galing sa friend mo,,kasi kung sa kanya ay okay or satisfied siya as-is,,pagdating naman sa iyo ay iba din.,and of course kailangan pa rin i check yong car for your safety

Unfortunately when we bought that car there was no mechanic with us,
its just purely trust since it was well recommended...naniwala kaming superficials lang ang mga aayusin like the front grill and the emblems.
after a week, andami pala! not to mention the Main drive pulley which is inayos lang pansamantala, very irresponsible sa safety ng bibili.
the nerve that yung mga kasama nya ng ibenenta na samin nanghihingi pa ng "for the boys " daw...
i really dont mind sana kung declared kasi nga kakilala ( daw )...
now i already spent at least 30k, this is my first car pa naman, i wish wala ng ire-replace pa uli...

well.if i was buying a used car, regardless of who the seller just be prepared to fix things on the car. Even if friend mo sya or friends of friends (friendster) dont trust them and yes, the word buyers beware applies. but it doesnt hurt if you can talk to the seller and maybe they can help pay for some things.

I sold my best friend my old car, told him the condition and he has driven it numerous times before selling it to him...when he bought it...the car still worked well..but after a few weeks...the aircon went kaput....so sometimes things will also come out in matter of few hours, days, or weeks.

hope maging okay na car mo sir.

The general rule naman talaga when it comes to buying 2nd hand cars is caveat emptor (Let the buyer beware). It's really up the buyer to assess the condition of the car, and not to rely solely on the seller's word.

    Charge to experience na lang.

bro, you are partly at fault. you did not perform due diligence prior to buying the vehicle. whenever you buy a used car always bring your trusted mechanic to help you inspect the car. it doesn't matter if the vehicle belongs to a relative or a close friend. it's always wise to have the car inspected if you do not know the history of the vehicle.

ganyan kami dati, since friend ko nga yun bibilhan namin, I never checked the car thoroughly ayun medyo di pala ganon kaganda condition. well.. charged to experienced na lang. looking back, ok rin na yun ang nakuha namin na car, dahil dun e natuto kami talaga ng proper car maintenance and troubleshooting. kung maayos yun car na nakuha namin nun e di ako matuto ng basic car maintenance man lang.. dati kasi i just drive wala ako paki alam sa internals

pero kung sobrang malala sira, i think you should work out a compromise or something with the previous owner.

Really sorry to hear about your predicament let's not go over how you got to it or whose at fault.

When you do call or meet the seller, I really hope that you can convince them to give you back some of the cash. After all, you did pay them upfront with no questions whatsoever so they should show some delicadeza if they have any.

Anyhow, if they don't and the situation becomes real ugly I suggest that you sell the car nalang before it drains you more or worse, breaks down rendering it useless. At least you can still get some cash back and erase the object of frustration out of your garage.

charge to experience na lang and don't hesitate to contact the previous owner baka kasi mahiya sya and share some for the repair of the car...if not...sigh!!!

In addition to bringing a mechanic, maybe you can check service records kung saan siya nagpapagawa.

Hindi mo din naman ma-conclude na friend mo may kasalanan kasi friend of a friend lang eh sobra na ang tiwala mo. For all you know, di naman alam nung may-ari na may sira yung car -- lalo kung de-driver. Try to strike a deal na lang. Kung may pagpapahalaga yung friend of a friend sa friendship ninyo, he'll compromise somewhere.

May thread nun dito somewhere. Just do a search.

nangyari na rin yan sa pinsan ko, binenta niya yun civic niya sa freind niya then after 1 or 2 weeks nasia A/C palit compressor na so pinagawa ng friend niya and binayaran na lang ng pinsan ko...but that is bec the buyer is a very close friend oif him....pero pag sa iba yun..."as is" ang usapan

In the end, we found out it was SECOND-owned by the friend. Kahit walang problema while the friend was using it, possible misuse by the ORIGINAL owner cropped up. So always bring a mechanic, wala naman masyadong bearing a pagiging friends kung papano magpe-perform and car in the FUTURE since the friend may not know it either.

Kaya dapat talaga test before you pay ...
    Points to consider:
    1. Check the engine oil. Pag inangat mo yung dip stick. dont just check for the oil level... Check for that shinny thing.
    2. Spark plugs. If possible, tanggalin mo lahat ng spark plugs, dun mo makikita ang combustion performance... Check for reddish brown or golden brown na color sa tip... It tells you that nasusunog talaga ang air-fuel mixture mo ng husto.....
    3. Accessories..
    4. AC performance... idle mo lang yung car.. kuha ng thermometer,... ilagay mo sa duck/ac grill if reading after 2 or 3 mins is max 9 deg celcius.. ayos pa yan...
    5. Road test to check for knocking noise and wheel alignment...mas ok pag may wall sa side..para mabounce back sayo kung anong noise man meron yang car na bibilhin mo. para sa wheel alignement hanap ka naman ng medyo magandang daan... yung walang banking... to be sure of the result.

    more points to consider:
    1. Auto transmission. magagawa mo to sa road testing.. pag alam mo kung ilang gear shifts meron.. dapat magagawa mo yun lahat sa road test mo.. kasi pag di nagsshift yung transmission.. overheat din ang bagsak nun... Pera na naman... To check: nagssimula talaga yan sa 1st gear. then pag nameet na nya ang enable criteria magsshift sya sa 2nd gear. maoobserve mo yan dahil babagsak ang rpm.. so everytime babagsak ang rpm, may shift yan.. pag 4 shifts,3 bagsak ng rpm ang hintayin mo para makuha mo ang 4th gear... Check?
