    autoblog : http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/01/r...-more-details/

Within days of announcing Toyota's formation of a "Committee to create interesting cars," this summer's Best Car Plus magazine reveals that the long-rumoured new AE86 type car has indeed been spawned by the group and should be in showrooms in the winter of 2008.

The new article goes into some detail of the new car's spec. Under 4m long and 1.7m wide, it's pretty low at 1.35m tall, and engineers have been directed to keep weight below 1,000kgs. Power will come from a 1.5L 2NZ-FE good for 120 horsepower. What has been unknown until this time is where Toyota would source a cheap RWD drivetrain, but Best Car has learned that it will come from new partner Fuji Heavy Industries - better known to you and me as Subaru.

And the best news of all? The committee's final directive is to keep the new car's sticker price below 1.5million Yen. That's about $12,300 USD in today's money.

pretty good.. rear wheel based econo compact is back. I bet tuners will love this, since the initial d popularized car is in need of a major powerplant facelift (in Japan and in the west AE86 r popular hybrids for using nissan SR20s and honda K20s ;))

$12,300 lang so far ang possible price niya, ang mura nun a kaysa bumili ka ng mga 2-4 yearsold 2nd hands ($12,300 x php45.00 = php 553,500 + tax + extras = php 600,000 - 650,000) pwede na, kaysa mag vios/yaris or jazz/city na kung di ako nagkakamali ay mas mahal pa ng by 30k - up pa. kung lalabas man yan dito sa atin. plus stronger engine and probably stronger torque.

This was obviously based on the outgoing Celica design (just look at the rear) and the Honda Civic front (just look at the front/cockpit angle). In the second pic posted by Ramon it looks like a Honda Accord from the front.

The third pic reminds me of the Nissan 350Z. Why can't they design something NEW?

Dapat free 2nd set of tires kasama hehe.

Exactly what I was thinking. It looks like they took the rear of last gen Celica(even the lights look the same) and fused it with the front half of the FD Civic with minor cosmetic changes. It should be called the FD86. RWD with 120hp, why not use the 1.8 with 180hp and tune it for more torque down low?
