1) BMW 3 Series M3 (especially the E30)
2) MB C-Class
3) G-Wagen! g-500 to be exact!

how about a Land Cruiser 100 for an SUV? or a nice pre-owned Lexus LX450 with three diff locks?

I think your choices here are apples and oranges. Aside from the wide range of prices, performances varies greatly. I'd take BMW M3 at anytime. This one choice will smoke the rest on your list.
