    hi!

unang-una, ok new look ng tsikot

may tanong lang po...yung mga odometer ng stock factory set-up vehicles, gaano ba ka accurate sila? does anyone here know?

    maraming salamat!

sir, in my opinion, it was fairly accurate. kasi maufacturer's specs yun e. saka ano naman ang reason para mag manufacture sila ng hindi accurate na odometer? except na lang siguro kung may factory defect yung odometer unit. kasi kung hindi accurate ang odometer, it could only mean that in event of maintenance schedules, kung hindi accurate ang odometer reading, ibig sabihin sila rin ang magkakaproblema, lalo na kapag nagka-sira yung auto nang wala pa sa panahon. =>

    thanks!

Medyo 'ballpark' ang figure ng odometer. It is somewhat accurate. Pero not very. Kasi iba iba ang tire sizes at gear ratios depending on the market and powertrain.

Try matching it with a GPS measurement of distance. Minsan off by 5% or so.

accurate to a point, as in + or - several meters per kilometer. that's accurate enough no? if you want more accuracy than that then i'll venture to guess your profession. surveyor ka ng dpwh?

    joke lang!

Tama si yebo. It is accurate to a point. It is accurate enough for what you need it for (maintenance, etc.).

Pero hindi mo pwedeng ipang-survey ng lupa.

    thanks!

    otep,

i've actually measured my speed on my GPS vs my truck's speedometer, but that was after i changed to bigger tires...just to see anong effect ng tire change (i assumed reasonably accurate ang factory eqpt). the gps read-out recorded a speed 8-10 kph higher than that on my speedometer...so i assumed the distance would also be off by a number extrapolated from the difference (but did not actually measure it which i guess i should have)

anyway, i was hoping someone who works in a car plant would post a reply

but this is ok, salamat uli!!!

Check out issues of Road and Track magazine.

They measure speedometer accuracy on their test cars.

Just to give you an idea how far it is off.

Yung mga Porsce speedometers sobrang off. Presumably to further enlarge the ego of their drivers.

speedometers are commonly inaccurate at high (more than 120 mph/190 kph) speeds, but are ok for lower speeds.

mga pre tanong ko lang, kasi i plan to change the tires of my glxi pizza from 185/65/14 to 15in. ano dapat ang bihin kong gulong na hindi magbabago ang odometer / speedometer reading? is there some kind of chart or formula that is followed or referred to when upgrading tires? thanks a lot in advance.

    Sturbo,

You might want to check this out for tire calculation.

    hi sheep,

a gps is a very cool and helpful navigational and can measure all kinds of things to help you find your way (on top of telling you your speed, distance travelled, etc.)

i'll pm you the contact info of the shop where i got it kasi medyo o.t. na siya dito.

yung post naman ni sir otep re the porsche speedometer...i can believe that! (hehehe, i would just love to drive, better yet own, a porsche sir!)

again, thanks for the insights peeps

nag test ata dati yung Car & Driver and found that odometers are generally very accurate even if the speedometer of the same car is off by a significant margin. so it doesnt mean na kung off yung speedo mo e off din yung odo.
