    Actually cars with opening rear hatches(flip up rear door/glass) are considered hatchbacks just like the 3-door AE86 Trueno GT APEX in Initial D.
    The AE86 Trueno GT APEX is a 3-door "fastback" coupe, which some (like Toyota) call Liftbacks.
    Liftbacks are hatchbacks that usually have longer rear ends with angled "fastback style" rear hatches like the 5-door Mazda 6, Renault Laguna, 3-door Ford Probe, 3-door Toyota Celica etc.

    Many modern fastbacks are 3-door hatchback(Liftback) coupes...
    But not all fastbacks are hatchbacks, the original fastbacks have separate trunk lids like this old 60's Mustang fastback for example...
