    Nagtataka lang ako.

160hp yung 2.4L na CRV sa US, baket dito 2.0 lang 160 na ang claim?

theveed... IMO, stricter emmissions control in the USA. like the RX-8 too, it was detuned slightly to comply.

another one... Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8... sa ibang SEA countries 135hp lang ang output... dito 145hp. though to note that the same engine can be tuned up to 190hp (for use in the Lotus Exige). nakapagtataka lang na dito lang sa pinas 145hp ang rating nya.

Local honda never did claim that the 2.0 was 160hp

Philippine automotive DOES really exaggerate the horsepower ratings of their cars. Most of the small cars here (i.e. corolla) never had a 1.6 engine here in the US but their HP rating is the same as the 1.6 (vs 1.8 in the US)...i think the Phil automotive assemblers is taking advantage coz nobody from the Phil government has the ability (or law) to check this if they are really accurate.

interesting topic though... kung yung sa cr-v hindi controversial i think aside from the dubious philippine market only na 145Hp Altis and rav4 meron din for Honda and the Last Lancer before the cedia.

The current ES Civic is 1.6L with a claim of 130Hp and in other markets it's 1.7L with also 130Hp.

Local ES civics are also advertised using vtec3 engines while in other markets wala vtec3 sa ES.

As for the lancer befere the cedia naging 124hp yung 4g92 pero same engine sa old itlog lancer yata yun with around 110hp.

Kasalanan ng Honda yan with the 160Hp SiR the competitors may inadvertently tried to bloat the Hp figures sionce wala naman magrereklamo. Even the SiR and the EK VTI has its share of controversial Hp figures.

Yung Local SiR i read that the ECU is not the same with the JDM or USDM spec 160hp b16A kaya when the local SiR was subjected to autoplus dyno it only netted around 120whp sa ibang markets pag na dyno yung b16A nila dun its around 140 whp.

As for the EK VTi there wss this topic posted a long time ago sa kotse that it only had 90hp when whp when it was also dynoed at autoplus. The local EK VTI head isnt the same with the USDM D16 VTEC with extra wild cams. Yung local VTI has hte same head with the USDM Civic HX with the VTEC-E engine with lower Hp output than the stated 127Hp.

I think this all started mga 93, when nagkaHP war mga 1.6L cars (AE101, B12 ba ECCS?, Lancer and EG na Civic)

Sobrang labo ng mga ratings dito if you read other asian and int'l mags, bloated lagi HP and torque despite smaller engines.

meron pako nung local brochure dito nung rayban galant it says 150hp *6750 rpm (110kw)
tapos yung Galant supersaloon nasa 137hp *6000 rpm (101kw)

the ECCS had i think 110 or was 125 advertised HP but they're like 90hp.
the Philippine SiR is one of the classic example. I'd say 120-130 hp is all they got....

Yeah, the 2.0 V6 galant (cant remember the year) had an advertised hp of 160 (cant remember) but i highly doubt it...i'd say 135-150hp...

These freakin manufacturers should be sued for false advertising but hey, they have more money to hire good lawyers than anyone else.

Also take note that convertion from pferdestarke (ps) to various (unspecified) forms of horsepower (hp) could be blamed.

    1 pferdestarke = 0.9863201 horsepower [international]
    1 pferdestarke = 0.9859233 horsepower [electric]
    1 pferdestarke = 1 horsepower [metric]
    1 pferdestarke = 0.9858664 horsepower [water]

Another way of stating output could be from from pferdestarke (ps) to kilowatt (kW).

    1 pferdestarke = 0.7354987 kilowatt

mga tsong, compare nyo muna kasi ang COMPRESSION RATIO. although 2 same car models may have the same displacements, the one with the higher compression ratio will produce a higher power output. so yung honda civic na 1.6 it will have a lower rating in other countries (especially in the US where the emmission controls are very strict) than for a car designed for the philippines. mas mataas ang compression ratio ng mga engines sa pinas. so do not be surprised if you see a 2.0 liter car in the US rated not much more than a 1.6 liter car in the philippines. one has more displacement but is down rated by lowering the compression ratio and thus produce less Hp per unit displacement, the other has a higher compression ratio so even if the displacement is less the hp/cc displacement is higher.

it's a simple matter of choosing between horsepower and emmission control. higher compression ratios produce higher NOx pollutants that cause smog but also results to higher hp/cc displacement.

dun sa brochure ko, dun sa specs, ganito ang nakalagay:
    Maximum power output: 110kW(EEC)/165hp

baka yung brochure mo yung mas bago na, yung meron ng A/T variant ng VR.

    yebo,
the thing is compared to other countries sa south east asia yung dito lang sa pinas ang kakaiba.. napaka special yata ng pinas for the car manufacturers to give us engines with a higher Hp ating :D

    Boybi,
yep ito yung brochure na may A/T variant na VR. mukhang inedit na yung nasa specs pero yung sa page na may pic nung engine nakalagay pa rin 165

As for the SiR tama si chieffy 120 wheel horsepower yun but still a big discrepancy from the 140whp when B16a is dynoed in other markets. Pero mabilis pa rin SiR dito compared to other cars in it's class :D

the most emmision controls can erstrict is 2-4% hp or so, in addition, miniscule 2.0 and below wont gain or lose as much as 10-20hp dahil lang sa emmisions.
