    Base the appearance of the car from it's mileage, like faded paint, worn seats, interior scratches...etc.

    there are also some instances that high mileage cars are better than low mileage cars. why? because, those cars that are seldom used, some parts just give up easily because most of the parts just get stuck up, especially if the owner doesnt start the car often. again, check the maintenance and compare performance and the other opinions/suggestions of the other tsikoteers
