i'm over those stupid car shows. and i went to more than i count back when the scene was truly about making your car perform the best you could with your budget, trying new stuff, and just having a good time.

now, in the ricer, post-fast and the furious world, it's just stupid commercialism. people are only there to sell stupider and stupider looking stuff, and the girls are just prostituting themselves because they think this will somehow lead to a legit modeling or showbiz career.

if i want to see what's new in performance parts or cosmetic mods, i just go on the internet and look at what real enthusiasts have done with their rides.

three or four years ago, these "car shows" were done in parking lots or rented warehouses, there were hardly any sponsors and no scantily clad girls (other than the car chicks and the car guys' girlfriends).

In the old days, tuner cars were all about souping up low-priced cars and outperforming much more expensive cars. Such cars were often "sleepers" with nary a sign to indicate it's not stock. Back then, my Laser RST cost me $13,850 stock. Even adding the $5k-6k for the HKS mods, the total was still less than $20k.

A 2700lb car with 281hp + ? torque (versus 190hp/205lb-ft torque stock) for less than $20k was special. Nowadays, the magic of it all seems to have gotten lost.

I just think of my friend's Sti at ~$32k + mod to 450hp and $25k. Tuning cars are getting to be an expensive hobby.

Edit: At least I had my fill of it all while the fun lasted. Nang nag-asawa na, wala na. Naging tahimik ang buhay.....

Sigh... engine swaps... garage downtime, long hours... those rare moments when you could take your baby out at 3 am... (rare, as in rarely running. ), that was the life.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

At least I had the room to run as seen in my sig. No cops, no traffic. Delikado nga lang kapag nasiraan ka. Ikaw lang mag-isa. Walking distance from that spot to the nearest traveled road is at least a full 24 hours, assuming I can walk 7 miles in 2.5 hours. Disyerto pa. Mainit masyado sa araw at malamig sa gabi. Pag wala kang cellphone o tubig, tepok.

To clarify all these myths, it's a timeless, ***ist marketing strategy. Recognition does not require neurons, but still works like magic.

sasabihin ko sana, more men buy more cars(and more often)...kaso, baket babae rin ang nagbebenta ng cosmetics/fashion items? B)

baka the marketing people want to correlate ***y women with ***y cars -- as if if you had the latter, you'd instantly become a chick magnet

in any case, nakakaawa din ung ganyan; parang trophies tuloy ang dating ng mga girls.

^ it actually has its roots in marketing theory, as somebody already pointed out.

when selling to men, supposedly you want to grab their attention, which is usually difficult when using mass media. thus, you use something their eyes are naturally drawn to

women, on the other hand, tend to idealize and identify with images. so, they'll see Eva Longoria on the screen and think "wow, i want to look like her", so they buy her cosmetics and exercise equipment.

Cool cars=cool cars, period. Nung last TranSport Show sa Megamall, mas masarap pumunta sa side na may classics at hot-rods kesa sa mga Bodykits & Bling. No filters between you and the cars (over-hormonal little boys and scantily clad promo girls), just honest to goodness good looking and quick cars and their proud owners.

***&Flash = mindest regarding cars as a boring appliance that need to be spruced up.

HotRodding&Detailing = mindset regarding cars as beautiful in themselves.

Needless to say, the hot-rodders love their cars more... the blingers will only keep their car till the "next big thing", then they'll go to work on that one and drop their ride like a hot potato.

    Ang sama ko, no?

i share the same opinion too. for me blings and bodykits are like the latest cellphones. pag may mas maganda at mas bago.. palitan. pero there are some aesthetic mods din na lasting yung ganda, yung mga simple, elegant and clean looking.

ahh pop psychology: because a car is an extension of a man's penis? (ive heard that said about guns too)

put a pretty ***y lady beside a car and a guy will go "hmmm that's a nice car. hmmm that's a ***y girl. if i get the car, maybe i can get the girl. if i get the girl, maybe i can get the car." so the guy is staring alternately at the girl and car and pondering the question as if his very life depended on it.

    classic marketing hehehe
