August 29th, 2012 05:44 PM #1Well, the most pertinent question is: bakit ang bilis ma contact ang sales ng mga Ford dealers, pero walang sumasagot sa Service? Hyuk, hyuk.
Anyway, I have a few questions sa PMS, since this is my first car, I'd just like to gather reader experiences as well as tips on my 20,000 PMS:
- is it normal na provided ng dealer yung oil? they're providing semi-synthetic Shell branded oil of unspecified type (within specs ng recommended oil, of course), but they're not allowing me the option of bringing my own motor oil. This is sa Ford Libis. Okay lang ba yung casa option? I don't really have much experience when it comes to choosing yung type ng oil, but I figure having that option would be nice in the first place. They're charging 6,000 (initial estimate) for the whole she-bang, semi synthetic oil included
- I asked around and apparently, the oil filter is not available outside the dealer. Is it normal to want to do the PMS outside the casa? I know that conventional thinking dictates that casa serviced cars are preferred over the DIY route, but given my default distrust of services provided by institutions, I'd like to think that I at least would have that option of doing it myself (or via outside service providers)
Actually, that's most of my points compressed into two, but if you find it's tl;dr (too long;didn't read), here's the compressed version:
- okay lang ba mag dala ng sariling oil sa casa on your pms, may nakagawa na ba nito? ayaw kasi sa ford libis
- okay lang ba mag diy/outside casa pms? if so, does it affect resale value ng car? if hindi, saan kaya okay mag pa pms?

September 2nd, 2012 08:13 PM #2[Hi imho, the reason why the casas want to do the regular maintenance service and provide the materials needed, like oils and filters is because the warranty requires it. If the service is done by non-accredited shops, or if it is done by the owner himself (DIY), the warranty might be invalidated or voided. Please read your car manual and warranty docs to make sure. For the oil, you may have to consult your car manual and check what kind of oil is recommended. Sa Pilipinas, mga oils na SAE 20W-40, or SAE 20W-50 ay pwede. Basta ang numero sa dulo ay 40 or 50. This designates the viscosity level of the oil. But this is only half of the story. ALso check the API grade ng oil na recommended. Kung bagong modelo ang car mo (like 2011 or 2012) malamang API SL or SM ang recommended. In this case pwede kang gumamit ng pareho or mas mataas na API grade like API SM and API SN. Pero huwag kang gagamit ng Oil na mas mababa ang API gaya ng API SF, or SG, etc. Ang mga synthetic oils are generally with high API like SL and SM and SN. Pero pwede ka rin gumamit ng oil na mineral based so long as tama ang API grade niya.
Sana nakatulong ito sa yo.

Nasa manual mo required SAE 5W-30.. Pero ingat ka, baka sabihin sa iyo mas ok ang 5W-40.. Dun sa manual mo nakalagay na pwede mag bago ang FC kapag 5W-40.. Nangyari na yan nung nagpa PMS ako ng FOFI namin.. BTW, since newbie ka, better follow the PMS schedule para hindi ka magkaproblema sa warranty mo.

September 3rd, 2012 08:17 PM #4Makulit talaga sila sa service kasi money maker yan. Also they are so hung up on the months instead of the distance travelled. granted that it states which ever comes first, there should be a balance.
as far as i know, all over head cam type engines need/recommend something like 10w-30w, because the 40 and higher are too thick or something like that... something about the bearings. You will notice the engine is nosier on the 10-30w than a 20-40w because it is more fluid. My observation is based on Honda cars. using the 40s also seems to make the engine run hotter, again my personal observation.
For local conditions the front number is not significant since it never snows here.

Another option is to park in PICC/Harbor Square. Maraming parking space diyan. Kaya lang, malayong...
