February 19th, 2010 03:34 PM #21My friend told me that if you need to replace engine fan belt for Focus you need to cut and destroy the aircon belt in front of it, as it has no adjuster pulley? Aircon belt assembly with pulley cost P5k plus.
Is this true? that everytime you need to replace engine fan belt you should also replace aircon fan belt.

di naman siguro. paano mo ngayon mailalagay ang bagong belt ng aircon comp? pwersahan? kung walang adjster pulley gawin mo alisin mo ang pagkakamount ng comp para maalis ang belt then balik mo na ulit reverse.

That's terrible. Or it would be if the Focus had an engine fan belt... maybe you mean the alternator belt?
Not a big deal. I've never heard of complaints about it on either the Ford or Mazda boards. Usually, the AC belt has more wear on it (due to the clutch mechanism), so it's a good idea to replace it when you replace the alternator belt, anyway. Since the belts are automatic-adjust, they don't wear down as quickly as regular belts and won't experience the slack or slippage that can wear down an improperly installed belt.

February 19th, 2010 06:23 PM #26I was referring to the belt that drives the water pump and radiator fan.
What happened to my friend was, he already knew that the inner belt was already due for replacement due to squeaky noise but then he still drove it until it breaks apart one day. He bought the belt but then the mechanic could not loosen the AC belt, so he called up the dealer and the dealer told him that they should cut and destroy the AC belt before they could place the inner belt, plus they need to buy again the AC belt assembly. Unlucky for him the engine already suffered defects on the engine valves and guides due to overheating so the cost of repair filed up.

Ouch... he drove it with a loose belt on the water pump? That's not a very smart thing to do...

February 20th, 2010 02:07 PM #28this, to me, speaks of poor design and/or foresignt. i'd stay away from cars with poor design and/or foresight.. i just wonder what other questionable designs they have in that car.
my first car was a ford escort. and it bothered me then, why ford didn't sell parts tingi. instead, ford sold complete assemblies. inggit na inggit ako sa mga toyota. tingi-tingi ang bili ng piyesa. ganun pa ba sila sa ford today?

All casas will make you buy the entire assembly. And for many cars, there are items that cannot be bought piecemeal (in the Philippines).
It's a stupid design, but the entire intent of the Focus was to build a car which didn't require religious maintenance from the owner. So the belts never need adjusting. The coolant is a "lifetime" service free coolant, and the wipers are non-refillable flexible wipers.
It's an extra 3k pesos over a regular belt change... but most owners will do that only once or twice over the lifetime of the car... not a huge deal.
