4wd won't affect the ride... mas matigas yata yung ride ng f150 than expedition kasi rear suspension of the f150 is designed to accomodate big loads on the pickup bed...

The F150 rides on rear leaf springs.

Haven't gotten to ride a Lariat yet, so I can't compare the ride between it and a 4x4 Expedition. Between a 4x4 and a 4x2 Expedition naman, I didn't notice much difference except for the slightly taller ride height of the 4x4.

I've ridden the local 4x4 Expe and the ride is OK in terms of comfort (much better then the Suburban). The smaller engine in the local version is a bit underpowered IMO when compared to the Suburban. We took a Suburban and Expe off-road in Batangas before and the Expe had to be shifted to 4L in some climbs unlike the Suburban which just stayed on 4H (the climb had to see the cars start from standstill).

Dunno if it's the gearing, but parang medyo underpowered sya pag pa-ahon (climbing).

It has tall gearing nga... i've tried flooring it on first gear an lumpapas ng 60kph yung speedo.

Probably combo nga ng tall gearing and weight.

The 4WD is bouncier than the 2WD. 2WD has better damping as well, and feels more stable at high speeds. The 4WD feels floaty past 100 km/h.

Kasi rin the 2WD Expd is lower than the 4WD Expd. Kaya more highway biased yung 2WD whereas the 4WD THINKS it can hack it in the rough stuff. ;)

Agree (with the THINKS part especially)!

Pardon my ignorance, though, but what makes the stock Expedition's 4WD system less superior to the more serious off-roaders' systems, like those on stock LCs, etc?

IMm29, very good question, I'm about to ask the same question. Madalas kasi pag nag-uusap about offroad, Exped is not mentioned, all jap brands.

Actually, Ok naman ang 4WD system ng Expedition. Borg-Warner pa ata ang may gawa nito (or some other famous transmission company). Gusto ko lang hampasin ng sapatos yung engineer who designed the 4X4 system controls to look like an a/c switch. Ayoko kasi ng push button ek-ek. Gusto ko may lever sticking out of the floor. Mas masarap ang interface.

Problema talaga ng Expedition ay sheer size. Tapos ang panget pa ng approach at departure angles and wala siyang underbody armor like Troopers, Pajeros and other mid-size SUV's.

Parang aircon nga yung switch nung 4WD nung Expedition.

As to sheer size, parang ganyan din kalaki ang LC100? Yung mga approach and departure angles nga siguro, medyo problema.

Yung Expedition may chin spoiler at trailer hitch kaya kawawa talaga approach at departure. Sa bagay, useful din naman unlike the ones that were formerly on my truck.

But other factors such as overall weight, approach and departure angles, and accessories do not work for its off-roadability.

Langya, kala ko me sira oto ko, yun pala na-switch to 4H, tapos nag-bind.

    mbt,

Hehehe. I bet so too. Pero ok ang Expedition if you're not going off the pavement. Malayong mas malaki ang cabin space kaysa LC100.mbt,

IMHO you don't buy an Expedition anyway to go off-roading with it.

But its a nice cruiser talaga, like going to Baguio loaded and in traffic, seamless talaga siya, no hassles or pain. The Exped is at home eating up the highway miles. I've taken ours to Bagiuo a couple of times and in Subic and Batangas for day-only trips, and hindi siya nakakapagod dalhin, and of course the power won't let you down overtaking a convoy of slow trucks on a two-lane road.

Pero kalampagin din after a while. We had an LC VX-R 97 model from Dubai before getting our current Expd. THAT felt like a hiked-up hot hatch! But ride was a bit too stiff compared to the Exped in OE form.
