ung "best before" date sa mga packaged food products sa supermarket

it doesn't mean pag lumampas ang date sira na ang item

    it's still good

sobra arte and high standard lang mga kano they throw away tons of food samantala dami nagugutom sa ibang bansa (pati sa sarili nilang bansa dami nagugutom)

    nakakahinayang nga

Depends on the food talaga. Pag milk or cream or canned goods, I never eat expired.

I always say, if the label states "best before", then it should be better after. Hehehe

I just drank 3 months expired del monte four seasons in Tetra. I hope I don't get diarrhea. It tastes okay pa naman. I feel like eating expired food is what made my tummy "matibay" 😂

post here on whatever happens next.

i am also a believer in "matibay sikmura namin dahil sanay kami kumain ng sirang pagkain." heh heh.
but i wouldn't recommend it as an intention.

Okay pa naman yung kulay pero parang sobra yung laman, kasi 450 ml ang baso ko, when I opened ang dami pang laman!

    "expired" versus "best before".
they mean the same thing: "discard the product".
the potential for harm outweighs very heavily the perceived savings and utility.

doc, marami naman kasi pagkain that don't really expire. I just threw out kanina a lot of chocolates I will eat it as long as it tastes good, some expired chocolates though become "grainy" when expired so I don't like it anymore

you have to see it the way the manufacturer sees it.

we see it as an opportunity to maximize our purchase.
the manufacturer sees it as a mis-opportunity to get sued, in case something happens to us after we eat at the over-estimated food's condition..

and i agree with you. chocolate may have a very long palatability life. humihiwalay lang ang mga emulsified ingredients nila over time, resulting in sub-optimal taste. but still perfectly edible.
lately, the chocolates available locally that i sampled, do taste a bit old. old stock, probably, courtesy of covid business slowdown.
nagpa-bilin ako ng M&Ms sa balikbayan friend, who's flying over from the us next month. in my experience kasi, the nicest M&Ms are those brought in by travelers from near their home factories.

I'm just curious. Is it normal for households to regularly throw out food? I am NOT at all wasteful, in fact I eat expired food I know people that absolutely won't eat anything past expiration, but then, even if we try our best not to throw out anything, it still happens a lot.

I inspected our ref and I feel so bad now because I had to throw out a whole cake (one slice lang nabawas), a llanera of leche flan (new/untouched), pack of romaine lettuce (new/untouched) and a big bowl of soup. If I think about my cousins in the US, I don't feel too wasteful kasi mas malakas sila magtapon, like for example they would open a can of soda, take a few sips and leave or throw it out na. Anyway, parati ako napapagalitan ng Mommy ko for wasting food but it's not like she does not let food spoil too So I wanna know how normal is it to throw out food and clear the ref (and find a lot of food to dispose)
