TWO restaurants in Quezon City were ordered shut yesterday by the Laguna Lake Development Authority for allegedly discharging waste water that failed to meet the agency’s standards.
Served with a cease-and-desist order were Gerry’s Grill in Libis and The New Albergus restaurant in Capitol Hills.
According to the agency, the two restaurants did not have the necessary LLDA clearance required for businesses in Metro Manila to operate, as well as the discharge permit needed to release waste water.
“Shutting down a company is the last among our options. It is a regretful thing to do but we cannot tolerate their continuous discharge of pollutive waste water that ends up in Laguna Lake,” LLDA general manager Casimiro Ynares II said in a statement.
The LLDA said it had found out as early as March 2001 that Gerry’s Grill had no LLDA clearance and discharge permit. The company was served a notice of violation and slapped an annual fine of P5,000.
Albergus, on the other hand, was penalized for the same violations. It was also slapped a daily penalty of P1,000 dating back to April 11, 2005.
Sought for comment, Edith Carreon, a human resources officer of Gerry’s Grill, told the Inquirer that the company’s operations and engineering teams will look into the matter.
She added that the closure of one of their branches was expected to be taken up in yesterday’s regular management meeting.
The Inquirer called up The New Albergus restaurant on Capitol Hills but an employee who identified himself as Ghera Fadol said that the manager and all other employees had already gone home.

haha. Nakakatawa pa yung humarap sa media na tauhan ng Gerry's kagabi ang sabi niya:
Ang alam ko ok na ito eh. Sabi ng boss ko BAYAD na daw. (or something like that)
Ano kaya yung bayad na...? hehe mukhang may kumita ah. hehe
Be careful with channels like "China Observer" on YouTube. There is a clear bias in their posts and...
