TORONTO (Reuters) - When it comes to romance, women prefer someone who tickles their funny bone while men opt for those who catch their eye, according to an international survey released on Wednesday.

The survey, conducted in 16 countries by Canadian romance publisher Harlequin Enterprises, asked men and women on six continents about traits they liked or disliked and how they went about trying to meet Mr. or Ms. Right.

The poll revealed differences between countries in the way people tried to impress the opposite ***.

Australians and British men frequently admitted drinking too much, while about half of German and Italian men said they had lied about their finances. Spaniards were the most likely to use *** to catch someone's attention.

Eighty percent of Brazilian and Mexican men said they had lied about their marital or relationship status, as did 70 percent of German women, the survey said.

When it came to meeting that special someone, a majority of respondents preferred to rely on friends for introductions. The Internet was not a popular hunting ground except in Portugal, where about half the surveyed men and women opted to find people online.

Both Spain and France suffered a gender gap. Thirty percent of Spanish men, but no Spanish women, looked for love online. In France, 40 percent of men but only 10 percent of women attended parties, bars and clubs to meet someone, but they did have one thing in common: both ***es rated looks as more important than their counterparts in other countries.

When it came to that first meeting, a majority of men polled said beauty was more important than brains, while women put a sense of humor at the top of their list.

Physical attraction was the top priority for men in France, Brazil, Greece, Japan and Britain. And while 40 percent of Portuguese men rated intelligence over looks in a first encounter, no Australian men did so.

In the United States and Canada, humor was considered the most important trait by both men and women, getting 63 and 73 percent of the vote respectively.

I relied on my landlady to introduce me to her beautiful niece who became an ex-fiancee. I also relied on my mom's friend to introduce me to her niece who became my wife. Obviously, there's a trend. I didn't care much for clubs or bars to meet women. Cars were my diversion while I was single and women who dealt with cars were far too few. But, one thing is true. I do like pretty women as far as what catches my eye first. Well, either that or a juicy behind.

come to think of it, may pinsan ako na pangit. he's dark, short, kulot yung buhok at bali-baliko ang ngipin (finally got braces recently). we're very close and when i was single we always hit the town together.

masarap siyang kasama kasi kwela and his confidence and sense of humor is always a big hit with the ladies. he had four girlfriends - all very good-looking - before i even had my first one, and he's great to have as your wingman at parties because he'll always introduce us to the best-looking ladies and break the ice.

well, in my own opinion, humor is one of the list for my turn-ons but I would prefer to have a bf who would respect me and of course maturity is on my top list...

but do keep in mind, there's a thin line between a guy with a sense of humor and a comedian.

can you live with a guy who was a former class clown/jester? a guy who can crack jokes and make everybody laugh on any informal gathering at the shortest possible time.

I met somebody once like this, the husband of my wife's friend. talagang malakas ang dating, lahat kami napapatawa nya, it was an evening full of laughter. but recently accdg. to my wife, his relationship with my wife's friend is on the rocks. apparently, it was only his wife who took him seriously.

Ok. Lemmee try my crude attempt at humor......

Wife: Why is it hot here in Arizona?
    Me: Because it's not cold.

Wife: How come it's dry here?
    Me: Because it's not wet.

Wife: How come our house is far from work?
    Me: Because it's not near.

Wife: Sipain kita diyan! (She tries to kick me!)
    Me: You missed!

Wife: Here! (Super lightning-fast kurot sa tenga)
Me: Okay! Okay! You didn't miss me! Aaaaooouuch!

    Ok. I go now.......
