why would someone be carrying around the idea of an ideal mate if he/she wasnt looking?

someone open to a relationship, someone open to falling in love can fall in love when he/she meets the right person

but if you're not looking, like say, you're a married man/woman who is totally content and happy with your spouse, you're no longer carrying around in your mind the idea of an ideal mate, so even if you can meet a hundred or a thousand people they wouldnt have any effect on you
