Para saan ba yung Power ECT? Kelan ba dapat gamitin yun?
The 'POWER' setting just moves the shift points a few hundred RPM's higher. You can use it all the time if you want. No harm done.

Leaving it on just kills your fuel economy. I used to use it when going up long hills or if I had to pass someone on the highway.
Yup. But there's no harm in leaving it on. Especially for vehicles with low power ratings (need all the help you can get).
You can turn it to standard mode to be a bit more economical.

Ah I see, sabi kasi ng casa sakin ginagamit lang daw yung ECT kapag naka 100rpm pataas![]()
Agree with Otep. Add ko lang some details on how it works (based on observation lang po):
ECT ON:
- shift points increase depending on how hard you're pushing the gas pedal. gradual press shifts a few hundred RPM over ECT OFF, Abrupt pedal press will result to much higher shift point * ~ 4500RPM, florring the pedal results to redline shifting. Downshifting also happens earlier. Decceleration is almost always accompanied by downshifting even without pressing the brakes.
It's OK to leave 'ON' but gas mileage will be poor.
Alam ko basta naka-on ang engine nasa at least 850rpm na iyan kasi yun ang idle speed.100rpm pataas
Power mode also helps give quicker acceleration from a standing start.

our starex has an ECT, im just confused what;s the difference between "power" and "ect" coz if i press the button down it shows "power" on the dash, and if i press it up it shows "hold"
any ideas? thanks!![]()
I think when you press 'hold', the transmission does not shift to the 4th gear... Let me verify that with the Starex manual.
I accidentally turned 'hold' one night and it was an ackward experience driving the van.....

Checked the manual and it says that you use "hold" when starting on a road surface that is slippery and/or with snow and the vehicle will start smoothly in second gear....
Position 1 >> Shifting Gear 2
Position 2 >> Shifting Gear 2
Position 3 >> Shifting Gear 3
Position 4 >> Shifting Gear 3
So, shifting is performed only on 2nd and 3rd gears....

its just to hold the gear at a higher RPM than the tranny would usually upshift to. useful when overtaking, on a steep uphill, engine brake on a downslope, or if you generally just want to hold the gear in.
also akin to disengaging overdrive. as OTEP said, no harm done. aside from higher FC that is..
afaik, overdrive is different. it engages the final gear ratio which when used with a light foot, will LOWER your gas consumption. power is the opposite, it moves the shift points higher by a few hundred rpm's kaya mas lalakas ang consumption (pati acceleration). kaya yata siya called overdrive is it allows a higher TOP SPEED rather than acceleration).![]()

Overdrive is the opposite of underdrive. When one rotation of the driveshaft is equal to one rotation of the wheel, this is called direct drive (gear ratio 1:1). When the gear ratio is less than 1 (e.g. 0.4), then that is overdrive because the wheel will make one complete rotation even if the driveshaft has not completed one.
Overdrive is just making top gear (which is an overdrive gear) accessible or not. It does not affect the other gears in the range nor will it affect the way the tranny shifts. If O/D is off, the tranny will bump against the next highest gear (usually 3rd) and stop upshifting.
This can overheat your transmission and destroy it. Hence, O/D should NEVER be turned off unless in the exceptional cases detailed in your vehicle's owner's manual.

hmm so now im confused.. one of our AT equipped cars doesnt have a dedicated power/ect button so thats why we press the OD button when needed. it doesnt hold the gear till redline, it does shift automatically when im not pressing that hard on the pedal.
example: OD on and light pedal press, the tranny shifts at around 2K-2.2K rpm
OD off and light pedal, will shift around the 3.5k region
now if i press heavy enough on the gas it will stay in gear up till redline regardless whether OD is on or off.
Dude, magka-iba ang POWER at ang OD. Magka-baliktad sila. BAsically, kung power ang button mo at gusto mo matulin (pero malakas sa gas) dapat naka-ON. Kung OD naman, kung gusto mo matulin pero malakas sa gas dapat naka-OFF. And vice-versa. So ang "tipid-mode" nila, Power=OFF samantalang kung OD=ON.
