my dad who has a 78' beetle, a kombi, a dune buggy, a 2 door brasilia and other slew of old cars not to mention a harabas still running perrrfectly.

recently, my dad had to register his VW beetle and harabas, so an emission test was required.

the 1st tests were downright disappointing since the two failed with "flying colors" literally.

but after a few minor adjustments, voila, it passed and with scores to die for.

    What are those adjustments?

well as long as your pistons' compressions are okay, a good cleaning of the carbs with the ever reliable carb cleaner would do the trick (couple it with the right a/f mixture) for the carb.

a new set of right spark plugs gapped at the right specs, new condenser and contact points perhaps (or a clean one) and properly dwelled and timed engine ignition will all contribute to a passing mark on any gas vechicle.

I don't think it is a secret at all (passing the emission test ng walang daya!!!).

LET US ALL DO THE RIGHT THING - HUWAG DAYAIN YUNG TEST NA YUN

    One of two adjustments:

    1. manually hold the carb so the engine will run extremely lean while testing.

    2. manually hold over some cash to the tester and see him give you a passing score.

ha ha....adjustment on the a/f mixture was almost correct but not quite.

after the 1st test, my dad asked our tech. to bring back the vehicles to the PETC and ask how can we let the vehicles pass. Without any hesitation, the MVECT [PETC technician] asked our tech. to bring the vehicles at the backside of the testing center.

another man came following them with a long flat screw driver and a small barbecue stick. and this is what he did:

    1. Screw IN full adjustment of air screw.
    2. Screw IN full adjustment of idling with a stick still pushing it in, making the engine idle at around 1,500 to 2,000 rpm

after that, the test and what do you know, scores to die for. and that without any parts changed nor any engine modifications or tune up.

and all the while I thought the PETC will be an angel for a cleaner air.

..... so in effect, we are just fooling ourselves about this so called "cleas air act." the best is to be able to REGULARLY and STRICTLY randomly check all these buses, jeepneys, 2-stroke tricycles, and other vehicles. WALA DAPAT LAGAYAN!

Ang problema sa bansa natin ay hindi yung batas pero yung pag-implement at enforcement ng batas!

Ganyan din sa mga U.S. smog centers. Madaming mga small time talyer sa paligid tapos dun mo dadalhin kung failed ka. I-aadjust nila para pumasa ka then after the test babalik ka sa kanila to return your engine to its former state.

sir its easy to point fingers...pero if you read all the post in this thread you would be amazed kung ilan ang nag-iisip na DAYA or AREGLO na solution instead of having their cars properly conditioned (nakakalamang sila).

    just my 2 cents. peace!
