cheap service does not always translate to good service. take it to a qualified service technician. don't be so impressed though, if the shop appears to be well equipped, tools and equipment does mean the technician is trained and experienced.

now back to the misfire. check which cylinder is uncooperative by unplugging the spark plug wire from the distributor cap with a plastic fuse puller pliers if you are allergic to high voltage spikes and note which cylinder does not cause a change in engine rpm when deactivated. then differentiate whether the misfire is caused by mechanical condition, ignition or fuel ignition.

what year is this mitsubishi corolla?

    1. Compression test
    2. Check/Change spark plugs
    3. Check and replace fuel and air filters if necessary
    4. Check ignition system (distributor, HT wires)
    5. Clean the intake plenum and check the servo if it's still functioning well.
    6. Check timing (with a timing light).

Have a reputable shop do the work.
