July 22nd, 2006 05:53 PM #1Swap engine on an a 97 sportage - where can I have this done
Dear Mods - I wasn't sure if this would be the best place for this question. please move this to another forum if necessary. Thanks!
Anyway, I have a 1997 Kia Sportage A/T na medyo masama na takbo, at napakatakaw pa sa gas. Rather than fix it or sell it na sobrang patalo, or fix it then sell it, baka pwedeng engine swap na lang.
Sana po me makatulong. Salamas!

Hmm.... why don't you get an original turbo diesel engine swap? Madaming Sportage sa Cebu. If I remember it right, prices start at Php200k-up. Available din yung Grand Sportage. Mas mahaba sya sa original na Sportage. Korean surplus.

i believe the diesel sportage uses a mazda RF engine. maraming korean cars out there using this type of engine (besta i think among others). so another engine shouldn't be hard to find. replacing it with a totally different engine would be a problem due to a lot of fabrication of engine mounts, modifying the transmission housing, etc..

IF your Sportage is a local unit, it does command a small premium over the Cebu surplus units.
If you are not really into cars, an engine swap is the last thing you'd want. You're just opening up a great big can of worms. That's Murphy's law.
I'd just sell it and get a '95 or '96 Vitara rather than risk the swap. Php240k gets you a decent unit already.
