May nakasabay ako minsan sa carwash na naka-remote start/off yung oto nya.

Naisip ko maganda din ito gamitin pag na-carjack ka. Just give them the car without any hesitation, tapos patayin mo nalang yung makina when you feel na safe ka na.

Just wondering, may naka-ganito ba dito sa tsikot?

Saan kaya maganda magpa-install? How much aabutin?

AFAIK, these features can also be found in higher end alarms, i.e. Clifford. Yong remote off, i think that's basically a turbo timer. Yong remote on naman, is useful for cold climate countries na kelangan nila painitin ang engine nila for a while. Di yata sya ganun ka-useful sa atin.

As to prevent carjacking, since integrated 'to sa alarm at umaandar ang makina mukhang mahirap gawin...unless pwede ka mag-activate ng alarm/remote off function while your engine is running.

That's the extent of my experience with this. There may be other who can give more enlightening ideas..

i have an Enforcer remote start/kill installed in the bimmer, medyo di ito pwede pang disable while the car is already running and moving. pang stationary on/off lang talaga.

i saw a docu /news feature about these sa US; this was about 5-7 years ago pa. basically ganun nga ang mangyayari, then after a complete stop, bi beep ung horn and magfa flash ung lights to attract attention(and hopefully send jackers into a panic).

dunno lang nga kung available sya sa aftermarket, or sa pricier brands lang meron nito.

hopefully they design something such that di pwedeng manu manong idisable ng jackers -- ung tipong pag binutingting mo e titirik ung kotse

AFAIK, this kind of device was banned somewhere... will research on this...

imagine... a carnapper doing 100kph on a car... then the engine suddenly stops... you'll be endagering innocent motorists / pedestrians - heck even the carnapper... a car IMO isn't worth a single life. involuntary manslaughter perhaps?

I don't think mangyayari yun....kasi its only the engine which is going to stop and the brake would still surely function pa rin.

So mag-freewheeling lang muna yung car until the momentum slows down or until they step on the brake...

....baka you were thinking na parang airplane yan na pag tumigil ang engine e malamang mag-crush....

    peace.

BACK to topic....yung kapit bahay ko nagDIY din ng remote start and stop...pero hindi ko lang alam kung merun pa siyang stocks nito...he bought several units from US. Last time ang asking price nya was P5k for the unit and the install...his unit didn't have an alarm (hiwalay bale).

That's exactly where the danger lies. When you cut off the engine, you also cut off the juice to the car's electrical functions, which includes power-assisted brakes. Without electricity, it takes at least twice the effort to stop a moving car.

Even the Adventure's owners manual warns that extra care should be taken when using the brakes, in cases where the vehicle has to be towed due to engine failure.

Also, power-assisted steering becomes very heavy when power is cut off, eventually locking itself as a security measure. You may want to think about that too, the next time you run your car at 100kph and you suddenly decide to shut the engine for a little free-wheeling.
