Cleaning of Reusable (K&N, Simota, etc.) Air Filters [Merged]

...the filter element is extremely covered with soot and grease that no amount of spraying the cleaner and rinsing would make the gauze look white (or at least clean).

...safe ba gumamit ng tough yet gentle cleaner like JOY to clean the filter element? hirap kasi tignan kung even yung pag-spray nung oil kung sobrang itim nung cotton gauze eh.

afaik normal talaga yan, di na mababalik sa original color, as long as u clean the dirt n grime para maging breathable uli ung filter ok na yan n spray some filter oil.

...ahhh... minsan kasi na O-OC ako at gusto ko talaga mapaputi eh bago sprayan ng oil. i do the filter cleaning every oil change/tune up, para fresh lahat.

scarab: with most filters, they actually work better when slightly dirty as opposed to new/very clean. as long as you get good airflow, ok na yan.

banatan mo ng hangin gamit ka ng compressor para matanggal yung mga dirt and grease.. pero wag malakas kasi mabubutas yung filter mo. but ang recommended lang is running water lang sya tapos let it dry then spray ng oil

reusable filters do work fine even with dirt/dust on the gauze, you can't remove them like what you've wanted, basta sundin m lang yung proper procedures ng paglinis and spray it all over wid oil para macoveran lahat ng area, do it at least 3 pleats at a time from top to bottom para malaman mo kung nadaanan mo na.

masama bombahin ng hangin or pressurized water ang airfilter for it will damage the filter elements itself. Sabi sa manual after spraying it with the degreaser-like spray wait for 5 mins ata and then tapat sa running water (faucet). Tapos let it dry. Dont sun dry. Natural drying lang. Tapos spray the filter with k&n oil. Once hindi mo na makita yun white spots ok na yun

...as i was about to spray the oil, nabasa ko sa spray can that you can use any good detergent sa element basta wag yung strong kind. so nilinis ko uli using JOY. di naman pumuti pero natanggal ng maayos yung grease and soot.

...tinapat ko lang pala sa electric fan para madali matuyo. tag-ulan eh, walang araw.

...APC, all purpose cleaner? maybe something like simple green, but i dunno how mild this stuff is.

siguro pwede naman ang APC if diluted to a weak ratio. parang degreaser.

Not true, they have to be cleaned every 30 to 50k miles.

meron ding simota cleaning kit..600 afaik. oil and cleaner ang kasama.

....i clean my k&n every time i change my oil (so every 10k ako maglinis). k&n claims it can go as much as 50k miles w/o cleaning (kaso maalikabok masyado dito).

....yep, you gotta re-oil the filter everytime you clean it (the oil does the filtering).
