considering our polluted streets, should one clean this filter by age or by mileage?

It doesn't hurt to clean it out every other oil change or 10k km... ansarap ng feeling ng bagong linis... ambilis!

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Simple lng sakin.. I dont wet it I go run to the nearest gas station to blow some air from the filters but not that close impact to the filter bsta mawala lang ang dirty dust.. yun lng.. Mine is SImota air filter..

    according to the knn website:

    NO gasoline cleaning.
    NO steam cleaning.
    NO caustic cleaning solution.
    NO strong detergents.
    NO high pressure car wash.
    NO parts cleaning solvents.
Any of these NO's can cause harm to the gauze filter media, plus shrink and harden the rubber end caps
    DO NOT use compressed air.
    DO NOT use open flame.
    DO NOT use heat dryers.
    Excess heat will shrink the
cotton filter media. Compressed air will blow holes in the element.
what more kung simota filters, which, afaik, use lesser quality components. . 2 cents..

edit: dagdag ko lang yung site.. http://www.knfilters.com/clningins.htm

Yup, masama ang compressed air. If you have K&N, Hyperparts can clean it for you at 100 only. If you have Simota and plan to do DIY, you can probably use mild detergent. Soak the filter until the dirt is removed. Then rinse using water with fabric softener to preserve the element. When dry, apply a mist of WD40 or similar product so it can trap dirt better. Do not spray too much.
