katok or tope = engine knock = pinging or hammering = predetonation. it sounds like there's a hammer inside the engine, and that's exactly what it does. predetonation acts like a hammer on the pistons, causing major damage to pistons, connecting rod, crankshaft, cylinder head and cylinder liners.
causes: too low air/fuel ratio, too low fuel octane used, bad ignition timing.
fix: adjust carb so a/f ratio is not lean, use higher RON fuel, adjust ignition timing. cheap lang yan, cost of a tune up kung need ng adjustment ang carb or ignition timing.
but the cost of fixing damage from engine knock is high. spell "overhaul", o-v-e-r-h-a-u-l, overhaul. mura pa din? spell "new cylinder head", or how about "change engine"? wag na haba nun hehehehe...
