Hi guys my Honda CRV 2.4 is getting near its 40k kilometer mark. Currently I'm using Honda eco-premium 0w20 oil for my K24 engine. I'm planning on using a different oil this time and I wanted to try the Motul 8100 Xcess 5w40. Question is, should I try on explore another oil or should I stick to the Honda oil?

Is the 0W-20 Honda prescribed for your engine? I'd stick to that if that's the case. If it's not prescribed then go ahead with the 5W-40.

Protection or performance? Of course, the relationship between a higher and lower SAE grade is not linear in terms of engine wear, pero between w20 and w40, w20 will give you more power and fuel efficiency at the expense of engine wear protection.
W20 is recommended for new engines.

Check the car manual and see what the vehicle's oil requirements are. I would always follow the manufacturer's recommendation.
How big is the price difference anyway?
