To save mother earth from such creatures, PCV valves where invented. Besides preventing oil sludge building up inside our engine, PCV valve draws fumes from the crankcase and burns them harmlessly in the engine. This includes oil.

Oil catch cans basically extracts the oil from the air before it's sent back to the intake manifold. Oil going through the intake valves cause carbon buildup besides causing the combustion process to be slightly less efficient.
