My grandfather died 5 years ago and he left a kia picanto in his garage. I tried to start it kanina however it only cranks. I already filled it with fresh gasoline 4 liters but it still would not start. Engine oil is fine. Fuel line is fine no leaks. This was in good running condition before he left the mortal world.

    Any troubleshooting tips?

Have not checked it pa. Unahin ko siguro fuel line baka barado. Saan ba makabili ng spray yung nilalagay sa intake manifold if it starts? Ano tawag nun?

Even if it cranks, ok pa ba battery? 5 years of no charging yan.

Did you drain the old fuel? They do have an expiration date kahit nasa tangke lang.

Drain the tank, put fresh fuel, replace the fuel filter and try it again.

Hindi ba delikado paandarin dahil wala nang langis sa engine parts? I assume all the engine oil has dripped down and the cylinders are all dry.

lahat nman ganyan. oil pump is driven by chain/belt. a few days lng oil goes down but of course a liter or so remains in some galleries.

as he mentioned, nag crank na.. oil already circulated..

Pag ganyan hindi ko na iistart. Drain all fluids na.

Baka tumigas na yan namuo na.

May nagkwento sa akin naaksidente sya dahil pinilit nya idrive kotse na almost one year walang gamit. Parang something sa brake system hindi na kumagat. Nagcrash sya.

you still have to move the vehicle kasi. try the vehicle first, find nearest shop then change the fluids..

pag mga bago-bago pa kotse ok lang kahit one year(pero ako i wont risk). Pero mga old cars tapos isang taon walang start. Baka namuo na langis nyan. What more pa kung 5years. Nakakatakot.

Pero to be safe ipatow ko na lang papunta talyer.

Just imagine one week lang nakatengga kotse tapos puro ulan nagisstuck na handbrake. What more in 1 year all the rains and init.

-Drain all the fluids and replace- brake, gas, PS, atf etc. especially gas, at lalong lalo na kung may ethanol yung gas (e10 like fuelsave) kasi hygroscopic yun it will take moisture out of air in the tank and absorb water.
Check the brakes kung nag eengage pa.

-check if it's throwing a code baka madumi ang sensors (even ebay/lazada obd readers can probably do this)

-charge the battery, or replace nalang. it may have enough power para icrank lang a few times pero di magtutuloy kasi kulang na ang cranking amps (please correct me if I'm wrong mahina ako sa electronics hehe) this happened to my car when it wasn't started for a week.

-clean the air filter, seriously, dami ko nakikita from relatives na nag aabroad iniiwan yung kotse tapos tinitirahan ng daga yung mga airbox.

-clean and gap the sparkplugs kasi baka corroded na, or just replace them.

Damage already done by trying to start it ... Should've change fluids first and re-lubricated ...

Damage happened already when it was left unattended for a long time..starting it just confirmed that notion. Make sure aircon is off when starting, the aircon compressor could have been stuck. Better to remove the drive belt (rubber belt that connects the alternator, water pump, aircon compressor to the engine) and inspect it first, then start the engine without it

Gas fed engine needs both fuel (gas) and electricity (spark) to run continuously

It needs oil and coolant to deal with heat generated by combustion and friction (fraying metals)

It uses the brake system to decelerate or halt (brake fluid, brake line, brake pads)

Tinatakot nyo naman yung bata. I've seen engines never been ran for 10 years and started with no pre-lubrication with no effects whatsoever. Walang kaso yan may oil film pa din between wearing parts basta huwag lang i-high rev until the oil circulates. Kung gusto sure gawin mo suggestion ni innova, patakan mo ng oil sa spark plug hole. Pati na din cylinder head buhusan mo mga 1 cup new oil then crank by hand sa crankshaft pulley.

Pull out the spark plugs baka kinalawang kaya ayaw mag start. And yes do drain the old gasoline and change with fresh batch. Brakes? Run with the brake pedal pressed down to clean the brake surfaces, preferably in forward and reverse. Pag ok na dalhin mo sa nearest shop for a oil change and tune up.

Hindi tumitigas ang langis. Tamod yun nagiging sago.
