February 22nd, 2007 03:22 PM #1matanong ko lang sana bakit "easy maintenance" ang gas? or conversely, why is it so hard (expensive?) to maintain a diesel engine?
is it still hard and expensive to maintain the new generation of diesel engines or only applies to the old ones?
lagi ko kasi naririnig na magastos/mahirap ang mag maintain ng diesel.
sana matulongan nyo ako!
salamat!

not really, maintenance is just the same actually, compare this sa gas engine tune up you change the oil and filter, sparkplugs, fuel filter, clean or replace air filter kung luma oto mo add the contact point, condenser.
sa diesel tune up is change oil and filter and fuel filter & clean or replace air filter too.
so basically halos parehas lang di ba. sparkplugs lang ang iba.

aside from the post above.. mahal din kasi sa diesel engines usually need more oil than regular gas engine and may at times have two filters instead of one.

yun TD42 ng Patrol, since I got it last 2003, once lang ako nag pa adjust ng valves, once lang nag palinis ng injectors. yearly palit ng fuel filter (2), every 5,000 km oil change 2-filter*300 ea. and 10 liters of oil, every 3-6 mos palit air cleaner.

Gastos ko for a regular oil change is around 2,000 a month for everything. Kung may pera naman at nataon sa major checkup (I do it every 20k), mga 7-8k ang gastos. Hehe.
This is for a Dmax AT.

February 24th, 2007 03:23 PM #10I'm an owner of an Isuzu elf 4be1 light truck..in my experience with diesel engines its more cost effective in maintaining one. as long as you regularly check for wears on your fan belt, loose bolts in you engine bay and engine support, wears on the wires of your alternator, your atf level, steering performance, battery water level(which is commonly neglected in diesel engines) including its clamps, check of oil level(which i do every day),regular change of engine oil and its oil filters(every 4T kms or roughly 2mos of daily use),water level in your radiator and its reservoir, cracks in your radiator hoses and a clean air filter..then your ride will give you a smooth start every morning you crank your engine..as long as you all of those mentioned above wala kang aalalahanin..ive been using mine for the past 6 yrs na and every visit to the emission test center less than 1% pa din ang grade nung makina ng truck...much to the delight of the emission personnels..ang pinaka major na naging problema ko is palit lang ng clutch disc..hehe..as with your injection pump being cleaned..hindi basta basta ginagalaw ito..unahin mong ayusin/palitan air filter mo baka marumi na at clogged o kaya yung hose na humahawak sa housing ng air filter(baka luma na at malambot kaya napitpit at walang mahigop na hangin) kaya mausok na sya..thats from my experience...my 2 sentimos
Thanks RY_ Tower okay na... IR35 WS .. swabe sa gabi :) .. R15 Front (Driver + Passenger)...
