May problem lang po ako sa car ko. The symptoms are as follows:

    1. Low RPM with headlights and aircon on and during full-steering... halos mamamatay makina...

    2. Brakes are weak with A/C on... ok naman with A/C off..

    3. Halos mamamatay din ang makina when backing-up... lalo na kapag naka on ang headlights..

Idle RPM is normal naman.. around 750... bagong palit din ang sparkplugs.

    Ano po kaya problem nito?

    Thanks a lot ...

I'm no expert sir but I think it's either weak alternator or most likely, compressor belt locked too tight or compressor clutch bearing close to stucking up or giving up.

Is your car using carburator or EFI?

If it's using carb, another possibility could be that the idle-up mechanism for aircon is either clogged or no longer working.

    Check the battery terminals.

Sounds like you have a bad connection to the battery.

    Clean the terminals and re-tighten.

Most likely a malfunctioning alternator or battery. Have it checked by an electrical specialist. A battery store can check your alternator charging/battery status for free.

sir bili kayo ng voltmeter (digital preferably around 900 pesos lang naman).

if reading is below 12.50, mahinang-mahina na po ang charging ng alternator niyo.

That's pretty much the effect if the voltage of the electrical system drops.

Check if the battery is good.

Check if the connection to the battery is good or loose.

Is your car diesel powered? (brake boost is by vacuum pump at the tail of alternator)

    Possible causes:

Imprope alternator belt tension, worn alternator belt, weak alternator, non-functioning AC idle-up mechanism, weak engine power (any cause).

Sentra ECCS...Sorry, I failed to notice it.

I'm wondering, what is the idle-up mechanism of this car when AC is on, vacuum assisted, electronic spark advance with IAC valve activation.

    Suggested order of inspection.

    1. Battery connections and battery
    2. Alternator belt
    3. Alternator
    4. Idle-up mechanism (is idle 750 RPM when AC is on)
    5. ?
    6. ?

Is the battery indicator on the dashboard lit up?

Almost the same set of symptoms happened to our ECCS a long time ago. 2 days later, it will no longer start due to a dead battery. We later found out that the alternator brushes were already worn out and it was no longer charging the battery.

insufficient ang supply for quick check,, start your engine , while running remove the battery terminal & observed the engine sound. at dapat ay still running parin at pag namatay si engine! si alternator ang salaring!

Just be very careful. Removing the negative terminal from the battery pole will do just fine for a quick check.

Not advisable on cars with ECMs, which the Sentra ECCS obviously has. Doing so may introduce electrical surges and could cause more damage. Much more if indeed the alternator or RR is defective and is sending out unregulated and/or noisy electricity.

Think of the battery as one giant capacitor.

Beyond the hands of a good electrician, the Nissan CONSULT should be able to tell you if the charging system is out of spec.
