how do adjust valve clearance of DOHC engines???

about to finish my DIY car repair (valve lapping, valve seals, gaskets etc...) corolla gl 91

problema ay yung valve clearance na bago pa man ako nag simula ay mukhang ndi tama so gusto ko siya itama.

kaso unlike the rocker-arm type na may screw for adjustments ng clearance, yung sa kotse ko ay wala. meron siyang adjusting shim ng papalitan mo kung mali ang sukat. pero mukhang mahal ang prosesong ito na suggested ng repair guide. kasi kelangan pa i-measure ang installed shim using a micrometer (wala ako nito at mukhang mahal ito hehehe) then do the computaions tapos bibili ng bagong shim of the right thickness.

any alternative method of doing this??? yung kilala ang ginawa niya dati ay tiniyaga niyang hasain yung shim ng kelangan ng adjustment. but the question is paano kung ang kelangan is mas makapal na shim??? may nabibili ba nito sa atin??? although meron naman akong extra shims sa bahay just in case.

To do it right you need to replace the shims and use a feeler gauge.Make sure na adjust muna ang valve, sayang naman ang pinaghirapan mo kung tumukod ang pistons sa valve.Do you know the clay technique?

na install ko na lahat and yung valve clearance na lang ang itatama ko.

will research the clay method kung applcable.

they are but since he is doing the build at home he may know of a machine shop that can set it for him para di na nya kelangan pumunta sa mga car shops

the clay method pala ay para i measure ang valve to piston clearance which i think and hope is not an issue dun sa makina ko.

anyway, meron naman ako 32 shims sa bahay (16 yung naka install) so tiyagain ko na lang muna ang trial and error hehehe. meaning kabit then sukat then tanggal uli kung mali ang clearance.

yung ndi tatama sa sukat ang ipamachine shop. sana lang alam nila dito sa probinsya.

No need for the clay technique since you're building an OEM spec engine.

Mahirap yang tanggal - kabit, at trial & error, mahirap din i adjust yan ng walang micrometer at dial gauge. Backyard mechanic, mostly di alam yan. Saan bang lugar yan sa inyo, sa Laguna ka ba?

maybe not trial and error, kabit, sukat then plus or minus lang sa specs, tutal me spare ka naman or meron din sa kasa nyan, kung hindi available i think 3 days lang ordering (forgot ko na how much)
