with my engine running oil is leaking from the bottom of the top cover of my engine (civic) tried kong higpitan yung mga tornilio sa cover but it seems lalong nakalas ang leak. parang dati siyang may sealant na natatangal na. ano po ba ginagawa dun pwedeng reaaply ng sealant? diy? ano pong exact tawag na ginagamit dun? or paano ba gagawain ko?
little help naman po sa inyo.

January 8th, 2011 07:42 PM #2baka po valve cover gasket palitin na. just change your valve cover gasket na lang sir. sa suking talyer mo ipagawa kung wala kang knowledge mag diy.

valve cover yan....
kayang kaya mong iDIY yan brad....
tanggal mo lang yung valve cover bolts at tapikin ang sides ng valve cover...
wag lang gamitan ng matulis na bagay or screwdriver sa pagitan ng valve cover at cyl head para tanggalin cover kundi mas matinding problema yan...
lagyan mo lang ng silicone sealant yung gasket (approx P50 lang na maliit) kesa bibili ka agad ng valve cover gasket mas napamahal ka pa.

January 10th, 2011 10:40 PM #5if palitin na ang valve cover gasket kahit lagyan pa ng maraming silicone sealant yan tatagas pa rin po. it will stop the leak for a short period of time then the problem goes back again. kung gusto nyo magtipid at gawing hobby ang magbukas ng valve cover pwede sealant lang muna. kung ayaw nyo ng hassle palitan nyo na lang ang gasket para isang bukasan na lang.

mura lang naman sir ang valve cover gasket it will cost you 250php.tapos DIY mo nalang.kasi kahit anung higpit at lagay ng sealant tatagas at tatagas pa din pag palitin na.

rtv (room temperature vulcanizing) sealants for use on automobile engines must be "oxygen sensor safe". yes it is true no matter how much sealant you dump between two mating surfaces, it will still leak if the two mating surfaces are not clean and dry. i.e., the surfaces must be free of any trace or film of oil. even a fingerprint of an unclean hand will cause a seepage of fluids after the sealant has cured. the surfaces can be cleaned with lacquer thinner or acetone or denatured alcohol to assure a leak proof gap.

January 22nd, 2011 10:44 AM #9Putting more than a thin line/bead of sealant is bad. The excess can get squeezed out when you torque the bolts and can end up INSIDE your engine. They can clog up oil passages and cause starvation.
