July 5th, 2014 12:29 AM #1Here are the following behavior of my Mitsubishi Grandis 2.0 96'.
1. oil in spark plugs
2 often break down of spark plug (come to a point where I just replaced it, come the next day it died)
3. Blue smoke when I start the car and sometimes in idle
4. burning oil
My mechanic said that the piston ring needs to replace, the 2nd reason alone convinced him to do an overhaul. Thing is it's quite costly to do..
1st question, are you guys convinced na kailangan ko talaga ibaba un makina ko?
2nd. I was in SM Ace hardware knina, and I saw some oil treatment like cyclo.. do you guys think that will fix the leak on my spark plugs?
TIA!

Oil treatment won't fix a leak.
How sure is the mechanic it's the piston rings and not the valve cover and the seals around the plugs? Those can also cause leaks.
I would do a compression and/or leakdown test to be sure. But definitely you will have to replace something.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

July 5th, 2014 12:47 AM #3Hi niky thanks for your input. Would you recommend a shop who offers this leakdown test?

July 5th, 2014 01:25 PM #5yung additive kasi na yan mas malapot than usual oil. kaya parang na-seal nya yung dinadaanan ng langis.
temporary solution lang kumbaga.
going back to your inquiry, try getting a wet and dry compression test first. kung tumaas compression after the wet test, overhaul na yan ang change piston rings.

Engine overhaul is like an open heart surgery. Don't get too obsessed with it. Unless absolutely necessary, forego it. Specially you have no guarantee of quality parts availability, skill of the technician or if it is not cost effective. Get all you engine test results in quantifiable numbers. A proper overhaul might cost more than a decent used engine that has never been tampered with. If the cost of the operation is more than 30% of the fair market value, consider other options.

It lessen the smoke. I haven't checked though the spark plug holes kng gnun pdin.
I actually brought my car to a very reliable car shop here, and they rejected to overhaul my engine due to sensitivity of the process. So ngyon umaalis nlg tlga ako pgkailangan to prolong her life until I can buy a new one.
