Know your engine type\model first, ask around or look at the hood for the OEM recommended clearance for exhaust and intake in hot and cold temp.

Unfortunately we dont do it as part of our service anymore. An exception is cummins engines which we do clearance for its injector and valves.
Central Diesel use to overhaul engines but now we concentrate on calibration.
But honestly you should be able to do your valve clearance as DIY atleast for your own vehicle. Nasa owners manual yan.

The 4JA1 and 4JG2 are the easier engines to adjust the valves because pareho ang clearance ng intake and exhaust at 8 valves lang siya.

Dieseldude is a DIY person, and I am a DIY guy as well.
He reads the thread all the time.

This procedure does not require any special tools or equipment. Any good mechanic with a feeler gauge and a few wrenches should be able to do this properly.

In most cases if not all, it does not matter which direction you turn the crankshaft to turn the camshaft. Your cams are eccentrics with a base circle meaning, if the cam follower, in this case you rocker arms or valve bucket lifters are off the cam lobes (flanks and toes) or on the heel or base circle, it gives you the lowest position on the individual cams hence you have the clearance that you adjust. Most engines turn clockwise when viewed from the front except turbines on aircraft, Hondas and acuras and rear mounted bus engines
