September 14th, 2011 04:31 PM #1Hello mga bossing...
curious lang po ako if may tsikotters ba na gumamit ng coconut oil as engine lubricant or additive?
Na encounter ko po itong site. Coconut Oil -
"Coconut oil has been tested for use as an engine lubricant; the producer claims the oil reduces fuel consumption, smoke emissions and allows the engine to run at a cooler temperature. As an engine lubricant, coconut oil performed better than mineral based engine oil in terms of lubricity, smoke point, flash point and resistance to oxidation. It also dissolves carbon deposits left in the engine for using mineral based engine oils that burn easily during the combustion process. It is not the fuel that leaves more carbon deposits but mineral based lubricants. It is found out that engines treated with coconut oil as oil additive produce no more or less smoke than without coconut oil.Engine maintenance would be lesser as compaired to using mineral based engine lubricants. Coconut oil is also cheaper and last longer even more than a year of use in your daily driven vehicle. In Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, more and more vehicle owners shifted to using coconut oil or palm oil as engine lubricant. Not only that is it cheaper and abundant, it is far superior than the expensive engine lubricant that is available on the market today."

Although it is true that more and more vehicles are using coconut oil but as fuel (diesel fuel substitute) either as-is or when coconut oil is converted to bio-diesel. I have never heard of anyone using coconut oil as engine lubricant. For one, it is too thin to provide adequate protection against metal to metal friction.
One major problem is that coconut oil will gel at around 10C degrees. Imagine what damage that will result in your engine.Last edited by ghosthunter; September 14th, 2011 at 05:21 PM.

Did you use the coconut oil as engine lubricant in its natural form? Because coconut oil will never stay in liquid form in Baguio temperatures.
