Car cannot climb steep road..

Ride is MT Toyota Avanza 1.3J. acquired october last year. This afternoon nabigla ako kasi nabitin ako sa isang steep road (about 45 degrees) inside Baguio Center Mall basement parking. 3 adults nakasakay including me. Before umakyat sa steep road dahan dahan muna ako kasi hindi pantay yung metal cover nung drainage system (dunno the exact term he he he basta yun na un) before the road so wala talaga bwelo. From fully stopped(car is inclined to the steep road) I shifted to 1st gear and depressed the gas pedal, dahan dahan umabante then about 1 meter into the climb nag shudder tapos namatay na yung engine. Parang hindi talaga kaya ng makina. Nabigla me talaga kasi hindi naman dati nabibitin dun sa steep road na yun maybe nakabwelo lang me before. Mabuti na lang walang sumusunod na car, wheeow!! So habang nakatigil ako dun sa gitna ng road inistart ko ulit, i tried again (2nd) kasi naisip ko baka hindi lang timing yung pagtimpla ko ng clutch and gas pedal and on my next try the same happened umabante ng konti, car shuddered and engine died again. Tried again (3rd) but this time i let the cluth slip a little para hindi mamatay yung makina pero nung kumagat na ung clutch the same happened again... i tried again but this time i pressed the gas pedal a little bit hard allowing the engine rpm reached 2k and releasing the clutch faster than normal para makakuha agad ng momentum but again the same happened.. so talagang hindi maka akyat... umatras nalang ako hanggang sa baba then bumwelo ako nang konti ayun naka akyat at last.. Ganun ba talaga ang avanza e low pa ang gearing neto di ba meaning high torque on the wheels right? pano na lang kung yung car is caught up in traffic sa steep road then talagang stand still??? Kinabahan tuloy ako sa car ko bka under powered nga talaga... pero malakas naman ang hatak ng primera sa patag... May naka experience na po ba dito same as mine? Wala po kayang problem sa clutch or something kaya hindi maka akyat? Comments are greatly appreciated.. THNX..!

hi sir.maybe you let the clutch up too fast and not enough hp..you mentioned nag rev ka 2000rpm, maybe it wasn't enough with the weight and incline of the situation.. i am seeing that probably you needed more rpm...more rpm=more hp therefore higher torque. IMO.

well since steep talaga ( sabi mo nga approx 45 deg ) i think kulang ka sa rev. 2000 rpm is too low in my opinion lang sir kaya hindi kayang i overcome ng makina ang grade.

somebody pls correct me if i am wrong, pero kung sliding po ang clutch mo, mas hindi dapat mamatay ang makina: hindi ka gaano makakaabante, pero hindi dapat mamamatay.

I see. Pero kung 45 degrees nga talaga ang angle niyan eh sobra namang tarik niyang mall parking ramp na yan. Last time ako nakakita ng ganyang parking ramp eh sa columbia tower sa greenhills and hirap na hirap umakyat even mga sedans.

Think of an equilateral triangle. Ganun ang 45 degrees. Kung ganun talaga ang tarik niyan eh wala nang kasalanan yung sasakyan mo. Kung ako nasa situation mo eh paatras ko iaakyat ang sasakyan para mas makitid ang gear.

Sir the engine is 1.3L, rear wheel drive pa. Mahina talaga yan sa akyatan. 2K rpm really won't make it lalo na walang bwelo. Kung talagang hindi makakabwelo, I think best technique yung kay rst619...when standing still on a steep incline, engage handbreak, rev hard, then let the clutch up slowly. of course timing mo din pala pag release handbreak. Don't be afraid to rev hard when you need it...as long as wala sa redline it's safe.

you got a relatively brand new car, kahit 1.3 lang yan it should get you out of that stiff incline without sweat. in fact, the car actually manage to pass through. the manner you handled the situation was actually the problem. i agree with the rest of what has been said, step more on the gas pedal & pump that rpm to rev more. tinipid mo lang ang gas kaya namatay ang makina and as a preparation for the climb, rev it up first to get the engine pumped up.

agree talaga ako na matarik itong parking ramp dito sa Baguio center mall at makipot pa... kaya kung namali ka ng tantiya ay hagip mo ang wall.
is this your first time to park there? siguro medyo alangan ka sa may kerb segment niya na paakyat kaya mahina lang tapak mo sa gas?always parking here but no problem... though mine is innova.

That basement parking at Baguio Center Mall is not car friendly..bukod sa napakasteep ng driveway, paikot pa so it is difficult to make "buwelo"..it is very cramped, damp, and dark.

Napansin ko nga yung wall dun damning gasgas..proof na marami ng nasagi na sasakyan doon.

Yung papasok din sa parking dun sobrang steep..45 degrees also by my estimate.. so kung pabalik ka, most likely ganon din yung angle..paikot pa..

Namatayan na rin ako ng makina doon nung gamit ko 1.6 na lynx.. mali lang talaga timpla ko. On the 2nd try, I really stepped on the gas hard para makausad ng mabuti..ayun...

Baka nabibitin sa fuel dahil pumupunta sa bandang likod ng tangke ang remaining gasoline. Kayang-kaya naman ng Avanza 1.3 ang mga ganyang akyatan. Lalo na't bago pa iyan.

Actually, from a friend who uses a 1.3 Avanza to bring workers to Tagaytay, it really doesn't have much climbing power... but with just four passengers on a parking ramp, you should be able to get out if you do it right... Buwelo, keep your revs above 3000 rpm, and climb out. Tutal naman, very short yung first gear niya...

2000 rpms ain't going to get you squat. The Avanza is a gasser, and gassers need revs for power. Now if you had an Innova diesel or another AUV, 2000-3000 rpms would be okay... but not on an Avanza!

Agree ako, dapat handbrake ka rev hard then timing. Ako dati, may huminto sa gitna ng parking sa megamall ( mababa pa yun ah ) then ang dala ko is '96 corolla 1.3 lang. Ganun ginawa ko, kinaya naman. dapat more than 2000 rpm.

Torque ng 1.3 avanza ay nasa almost 3K pataas. pag bumaba na ang rpm to 2,500 and falling habang paakyat, have to down shift para hindi mabitin sa power.

Ang mga gas engines has low torque at 2,000 RPM. Diesels have a lot of torque at 2K RPM compared to gas.

Tagaytay hilands ang pinaka matarik kong inakyat. 6 ang sakay with stuff pa. no problem.

sir sana try mo 3k rpm mababa para sa akin din ang 2k rpm btw my mb100 & pregio lahat ng paakyat sa baguio ayos naman lalo na yung papunta kami sa rest house malapit sa marcos highway i think pinaka matarik na nadaanan ko na yun,, pangalawa is talisay batangas going up sa tagaytay sa parking mall naman dito ata sa ST FRANCIS SQUARE na basement ground

possible cause ang too low rpm... Yeah i should have tried this... Next time mapunta ulit ako dun, i will intentionaly stop sa middle ng ramp so i can try your suggestion...

OK sir will try your suggestion next time na mapadpad ulit ako doon sa mall..

No sir, madalas ako mag park dun... hindi naman ako alangan kasi makitid naman ang width ng avanza kaya madali lang i mani obra dun sa kurbada sa taas... the way i handled the situation i think is the problem medyo natipid ang pag rev and i forgot to engaged the handbrake he he he...

3/4 pa po ang gas ko during that time...

dapat sinagad mo ang pagtapak sa gas or mataas na RPM. bitin talaga ang 2k RPM sa situation mo.

Kung ang gas engine ng car ay 2.0 at 2,000 RPM, makakaakyat ba? same situation.
